Importing video files from my hard drive is taking forever. I select one from the 'Selection' dialog and my system appears to lock up or just takes a long time to add it in.
Is this normal, or is there a configuratation I can hack to speed this process up?
Any help would be appreciated!
Importing MPEG files takes for ever

What are the characteristics of your MPEG files?
If they are MPEG-4, I would guess that what you are experiencing is perfectly normal. If they are MPEG-2, then what are the A & V bitrates, GOP etc.?
You are asking us how long a bit of string is. Unless you tell us the whole story, we cannot write the last chapter.

Thanks for following up.
I'm using GSPOT for this information and the MPEG information that comes back is this.
Container
MPEG-2 Program Stream << { 1 vid, 1 aud }
Sys Bitrate: 15000 kb/s VBR
Audio
MPEG-1 Layer 2
0xc0:48000Hz 192 kb/s total (2 chnls)
Video
MPEG-2
480x480
Frms/Sec
29.970
NTSC
4:3
File Size
1.23 GB
Is any of this helpful?
Thanks!

Your problem is almost certainly due to the enormous bitrate. The unusual 480 x 480 format may exacerbate it, as this is not 4:3. You should set the WS2 project to similar to the incoming format, but 15,000 kbit/s is well outside the acceptable range. What is happening is that WS2 is trying to change, on a frame-by-frame basis and convert it to something usable.
I suggest you try with your input files as 704 or 720x480 and, most certainly, a bitrate of <7000 kbit/s CBR or maximum VBR, to ensure maximum compatibility.
