Stubborn registry keys?

Post by Chikky2100 »

I was wondering if anyone could please help me with the following problem?
I have 2 very stubborn registry keys that i cannot get rid of?
I ran 2 registry cleaners but they are still there.
I even ran a regedit to try and find them but alas, no good.

The keys are marked as :

Macromedia Flash Player Factory Object....
The Path is .... is...HKLM\Software\Classes\CLSID\{D27CDB70-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}\ProgID

The other is ....

Shockwave Flash Object..

The Path is....

HKLM\Software\Classes\CLSID\{27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}\ProgID

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated please.

Many Thanks

Try creating with Notepad a file as follows:

Regedit4

-[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{D27CDB70-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}\ProgID]

-[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}\ProgID]

Now save this file to your desktop as remove.reg
Close notepad. then double click the reg file. (Note the - symbol at the start of the two lines)

Still there.

First thing we need to know is what your operating system is
(Please complete your system specifications on your profile page)
If you have XP include if its Home or Pro.

I suspect you have XP and this is a XP User account security permission issue.

Sorry but I placed the minus sign outside the opening square bracket. in fact it should be as follows:

Regedit4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{D27CDB70-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}\ProgID]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}\ProgID]

Try doing the notepad fix again. If that fails then I see you have Windows XP Home Edition. access to the Security options with Home Edition is somewhat limited. Are you logged on with administrator rights? - if not do so and then try to delete the reg keys.

If you are logged on as an administrator and still cannot delete these keys
Reboot your computer into SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, begin tapping F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now try again.

I have Administrator rights, it's my own pc.
Only trouble is, the pc was originally designed for Windows 98 & 2000.
Also, it's an old desktop pc.....Compaq Deskpro EN?

Tried it in Safemode, still the same message, i cannot import to registry.

I have another idea i could try, i will let you know how i get on.

Thanks again Steve.

Safemode would not work. i still have the same problem.
I have downloaded and installed another registry cleaner and it found them but i could still not delete them.

I'm not sure what to do next.

I have Win XP Pro so dont know if you can do this with the Home Edition.
Click once on the key name to highlight it and click on the Permission menu option under Edit. Uncheck Allow inheritible permissions and press copy. Click on everyone and put a checkmark in full control, press apply and ok and attempt to delete the key again.

I think i've done it,i'll have to double-check, but i think they're both gone now.

I did another regedit and found all the file associations and deleted them all, including some more that should not be in there.

Wish me luck, i'll let you know after another scan.
