Possible Fix(es) for Ulead Art Texture Plugin

Hello everyone,
I just joined and hope to learn more and to help others too. I saw a question about the Ulead Art Texture plugin that got that error message somewhere but can't find it so I hope it is ok to post as as new post since there are many questions on this subject and may help to fix the problem.

Remember the JASC Newsgroup which is no longer there! I had this same problem several years ago. At the time, the only recourse was to reformat the hard drive to be able to use the ulead art texture again. Many others had the same problem. Ulead C/S will not answer anyone on this. There are several ways to recover, but not guaranteed. Different versions of operating systems makes no difference. I've had them on the older o/s's and now on XP (SP2), XP Pro (SP2), and Vista. SP2 should be install; it fixes a lot of problems.

First off, Ulead Art Texture (AT) HAS to be in its own folder and outside and away from any other Ulead software and other plugins such as Particle, Fantasy Warp, Type, etc. I have all my plugins outside of the software PSP and PS on the C: drive except for AT. AT has to be installed in the software plugin folder then just point all your other software and version to just that one folder. Make a folder in the JASC or Corel's Plugin folder called Art Texture (or whatever you want to name it). When you execute the install, install everything into that folder and no where else. You will get a message that it can't find the Photoshop folder or similar, just ignore and install into the AT folder you created. Make a backup copy of the apsmgart.dll and the two files in the APS folder and store them somewhere else. Usually copying these files back over will fix the problem, but not always. Also, the other Ulead plugins should also be install in its own separate folders simular to Art Texture.

Another is editing the Registry (only experienced users) and removing all instances of Ulead Art Texture by putting in keys words as ArtTexture, Ulead Art Texture, Ulead (but only if it has Art Texture in its folder(s). If you edit the registry, be sure to make a backup copy first. Remove all folders and other files on the computer then re-install.

Below are some examples of what some members of the JASC newsgroup said and did work for some people. Renaming the gfill.upl will be recreated after you reboot the computer and open your graphic software. All you can do is just play around. I haven't had any problems in three years now.

Possibly these steps are the ones that will resolve the problem...

- Look in the main Ulead Art Texture folder and make certain that the file gfill.upl file exists.
- Then look in the \data folder and either delete or rename the gfill.cfg file.

The only way I've ever gotten Art Texture to work is to copy/paste the A Texture.8ba & ATexture.8bf files (in the APS folder) to the main PSP folder. Hope it works for you.

I hope this helps anyone who has this problem. Sorry for being lengthy, but I do teach the psp software and am very detailed LOL!
