Sound in "Clip" but not in "Project"

Post by nyee »

I've figured out the problem and am posting this here in case others have the same problem.

VS can't edit xVid compressed files well, so this problem occurs. Solution: I imported the original VOB format file (the direct DVD rip) and VS offered to pre-process it for me. At first, I thought that VS couldn't handle the direct DVD rip but apparently it can.

While there are other posts that ask this question, the answer given is seldom direct (e.g. http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=12647). So just in case you're having this problem too, use the VOB format directly.

I'm running into a strange problem (using VS10 Trial). I have a video clip that I have trimmed and have placed in the timeline. When I view it with "Clip" highlighted, the audio comes through fine. But when I view it with "Project" highlighted, I don't get any sound. There is nothing else in the timeline except for this one clip. What could be the problem?

The clip is ripped from a DvD using DvD Decrypter and then converted using Gordian Knot (xVid compressed), and plays fine by itself in VLC player or Windows Media Player:

Size: 329 mbs
Duration: 10 mins

Width: 720
Height: 544

Audio Bit Rate: 256 kps

Video FPS: 29
Video Data Rate: 548 kps

The project is set to "Instant Playback".

I've tried putting the whole clip (untrimmed) and it still has the same problem. There is no sound even if I render it.
