View the recording date??

Post by dpriest »

I have VS 10 plus, and am capturing digitally via firewire from my camcorder and saving it as an AVI file. When I open this up, I want to be able to view the recording dates of various segments of the video file so I can enter the date as a text on the screen.

Does anyone know how to view this? I have been viewing the clip in the camcorder and the date displays, and then I manually enter it in VideoStudio.

Please help.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I don't believe that the time and date data is recorded to tape unless you go to the relevant munu and specify that fact. It will display on the screen, but it isn't part of the recording itself. video Studio will therefore not see it during capture.

The time and date is recorded on the camcorder tape because when in playback mode, I can display the time and date, but that doesn't seem to transfer to the captured file. If I use ADS technology capwiz program, do you think that could captue the date?

Does the time and date display on your TV when you play it, or just in your viewfinder/display screen?

This question has been asked so many times we should make the answer a permanent sticky.

Time and date of recording IS DEFINITELY recorded onto the tape of a miniDV camera - it is transferred to your PC when using firewire and is actually displayed in the information panel under the preview screen during transfer. IT is only transferred when using firewire.

It can be accessed at any time - although not permanently dubbed onto your video - by one of two methods.

First by selecting "Display DV code in preview window" in 'Preferences' and playing the firewire captured video back in 'Clip' mode

OR by allowing your mouse to hover over the thumbnail in the library and waiting a couple of seconds until a box pops out - PROVIDED that thumbnail refers to only one timecode then the date of recording will be shown as the bottom line in that box.

If the one thumbnail relates to a number of timecoded recordings (you have not 'split by scene' ) then the bottom line will show the date of transfer to your PC.

To show the date permanently on your video - make a note of it and create a small title of it which you can place anywhere within the preview screen.

There is a programme here :-

http://www.dts8888.com/vDTS/vdts.htm

which extracts the time and date from your video and 'stamps' it permanently on your video which you can then import back into UVS
