VS 9 Crashes during burn...

Post by jedi-bob »

Recently I have been experiencing a weird crash around 1hr and 30 minutes into the burning process.

This is the message that I get...
THE TARGET DEVICE MIGHT HAVE SOME PROBLEMS.
PLEASE TRY AGAIN OR REBOOT (5213)

When I click OK it says...
FAILED TO BURN DATA ONTO DISC.
ERROR (0X8004145D)
DVDR-DAO-SPTI 21-02-04-09-00

If anyone can shed some light on how to rectify this, I would really appreciate it.

THANKS!

Have you tried using a different brand of Disks? Is the firmware on your DVD burner up to date?

I haven't tried any different disks. I will though.
I hate to sound ignorant...but what do you mean by "firmware"?

Firmware is a combination of software and hardware. Computer chips that have data or programs recorded on them are firmware and can be updated. You could go to your manufacturers website and check for firmware updates for your device, but first I would try a different brand of Disk like verbatim which have a good compatibilty record with a large number of devices.

The discs I am using are Verbatim DVD-Recordable 4.7GB 120 Min 16X Certified.

Are you burning at 4X or lower?

Probably the device rather than the Disks then. How much burning have you done with your burner?

CD and DVD's close to 60-70.
Had the PC since late 2002.

It burns CD's with no problem and it reads with no problems as well.

Are you fully patched for VS9? Also, make sure that all unnecessary background programs are disabled. Your original error code could refer to inadequate system resources being available.

One last, obvious thing. You do have enough Disk space available for your project?

I forgot to mention... What burns on the disc is the menu page (with the assigned music) and a few seconds of the first chapter of footage (with sound) then the whole thing just stops. So SOMETHING does burn.

The same thing happened with FUJIFILM discs.

Some dvd burners can be faulty in that they burn DVD well but not CD and vice versa.
Another suggestion ( albeit temporary) is to burn an image or DVD folder on the hard drive then use Nero to burn the DVD video outside the program. This method also allows multiple copies to be made
But Im not convinced all is with with the Burner unless the windows System ASPI drivers are corrupt.
If ypur burner has walked well in the past I would shy away from firmware upgrades as , if they go wrong, they do so spectacularly and your DVd burner becomes a rather heavy paperwieght :(

Problem resolved. It was the burner that was shot.
I just bought a SONY DRU-820A DVD+-r DL AND IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM...SO FAR ;-)

Thanks for all of your help. You guys are the best!!! :D

Hi

Just one observation, your first post said ( a weird crash around 1hr and 30 minutes into the burning process.)

Does this mean the old burner was very very slow, or are you rendering during the burn process?

Happy you fixed your problem
