I'm sorry for any false hopes I may have portrayed, but after doing a full scale slide show, the problem still remains. However, I do not experiance this problem with Pinnacle Studio. Video Studio 8 is worthless in my opinion until this problem is corrected. It's a shame as this program is rich in features, but doesn't work correctly! I now have thrown in the towel and will be asking for a refund. After hours upon hours of trouble shooting, thats the least they can do!
NOT FIXED! Flickering / pulsating stills - time for refund!

Gaussian blur
Hi David,
I'm not familiar with gaussian blur. Is it something available in VS8? What effect does it have on the picture?
Thanks in advance!

John,
I saw in your earlier post you have tried all of the suggestions in the forum. Just wanted to make sure you saw this one.

Still no flickering for me since rendering with Constant Bit Rate.

Thanks for the responses...but...
Thanks for the responses guys. Coalman, I get the pulsating images on a 13" TV, PC and my big screen, so the sharpness issue is not a factor. I feel it's unacceptable that I have to apply addition effects to get the desired results. I don't experiance this problem with Pinnacle Studio! MTCastle, I tried every configuration that is possible with the same annoying results. Guys, again, thanks so much for the help, but I give up. Request for refund time. But before I do, I will try the same slide show with VS7 just for HA, HA's and see what happens.

My 2c worth on this issue:
Video Studio (8 - and predecessors) is, IMHO, a fantastic capturing and editing program. That is its real strength. It also has a basic ability to burn DVDs. Judging by the number of issues posted in this forum, that is not its strength. And it does not handle slideshows particularly well.
There are other programs, if you have the luxury of lashing out, which do the opposite. What you would be looking for is something which is strong on burning, and also has a rudimentary capturing and editing module.
I happen to have MyDVD, which fulfils the above criteria. It has a slideshow module, which creates perfect slideshows. This is the perfect complement for VS.
If you wished to stick with Ulead (and why not - they make pretty good stuff) I think DVD Workshop would be their equivalent package.

DVD Workshop is the higher end of the market. A more affordable solution is Movie Factory/DVD Disc Creator 3.0, which is a good authoring/production tool, with decent if rudimentary editing capacity. It also makes great slideshows with no effort whatsoever. If I am going to include slideshows on a DVD, I always use Movie Factory (though I also used to use MyDVD, and it is good too).

Video Studio 7 NO PROBLEMS!!!
Well I just did the same slide show in VS7 and guess what, NO PULSATING! What is really cool is that I was able to import the transitions from VS8 (I really like the Cross Fade transition). Well thats proof positive for me. VS8 does not work correctly, period. Luckily I purchased it from their web site via download. Its refund time. Good luck to everyone who uses version 8. For now, its back to version 7 for me, especially since I can now use the newer transitions! Thanks for everyones input.

Coalminer. The pulsating occurs in the video itself and had nothing to do with the TV. I can see it on my PC monitor.
I have to agree with the postee here VS7 was better at pics! even in the overlay track!
either the codec is screwy or the plugin which does pan and zoom is conflicting with the program.
For the postee imagine you are looking thru a pair of stockings at a scene. that is what a gaussian blur does. i use this in Photoshop Elements 2 but dont go above a blur of more than 1 though!
