MSP 6.5 questions, yes 6.5

Here's the deal. I used MSP 6.5 to create my documentary on an old celery 400 Win 98 and a dc10+ card. worked great.

I use Avid Express DV in my day job. I have been adding things to an HP XW6000 in prepto buy Avid and put it on that system. Well, I do voiceover work so that is the main concern, and I recently won an M-Audio 2496 sound card. A friend lent me his Avid software, I put it on the system and as I had heard, avid and the 2496 don't get along.

so last night I installed MSP5.0 and then the 6.5 upgrade onto that box. everything seems fine. the only video I had on there was a QT 352x whatever that I had created in Avid before the M-Audio card. I brought that in, and while it worked, it played choppy.

Now this system is no slouch, HPxw6000, Dual Xeon 2.66 processors, 1.5 gig of RAM, 60 gig sys drive, 160 gig media drive, Ads Pyro firewire card, HP DVD+/-R, Nvidia display adapter (not sure the model but it supports 4 monitors, though only one is attached... where would I find the room?!?)
Windows XP sp1

Any tweaks or anything I should know about?

I haven't yet gotten my analog to DV convertor so I hope to capture some DV this weekend.

I'm sure someone will say upgrade to 8.0, but right now I can't afford it.

Updates etc. have been moved into a single download. This page has one for 6.5;

Make sure you apply the MPEG-NOW patch if its in there. This will install the MainConcepy MPEG encoder, which is a huge improvement over the cruddy Ligos encoder thats standard in 6.x.

I worked with it a bit last night, captured some DV cam footage, threw a couople effects in and everything seemed to work properly. I still ahve to gte a handle on the capture end of things. I'm used to Avid.

Which by the way, would not work with my 2496 card, but after shutting down MSP last night, for theheck of it, I started Avid, and ZONIKS! it worked... which reminds me of something I read about happening.

but I have to wait and see what happens next time i fire her up.

as for some background... I use Avid Express DV 3.5 at work, I produced my documentary on MSP 6.5 on a Celeron 400 with a Pinnacle DC10+ card, and in the meantime got a copy of Xpress Pro 4.6, so I go back and forth.

MSP8, Premiere Pro + Matrox RTX.100 R/T hardware. Premiere Pro straight, VideoStudio and Cinelerra (64 bit Linux).
