Capture television shows?

I have Video Studio 9 SE with my Video Xpress capture card but I have no idea how to record television. I plug in the video/audio cables but I just get a green preview screen. Help?

Are you sure that your card is capable of that functonality? I have the excellent ADS DVD XPRESS DX2, and the box can transfer video from VHS tapes, digital or analog camcorders but would not handle TV output.
