Sound Query

Post by MICO »

Can anyone tell me if:-

(a) It is possible to separate the soundtrack of a particular scene from the
picture, so that they can be placed on the time line separately.

(b) It is possible to enter a piece of additional sound, such as extra
commentary, once the film has been completed. It seems easy
enough to add further pictures but I can't work out how to add
additional sound.

Any advice much appreciated.

Thank you.

YES and yes. - please ensure you are in 'Timeline' mode not 'Storyboard'

To split sound from picture - select the clip in the timeline then RIGHT click over it - from the pop-up choose "Split Audio" the sound will then be separted from the picture and put in the audio track for you to manipulate as you wish. If you only want to separate from a particular scene you will have to just cut each end of that scene first using the scissors tool.

If you want to add commentary then you need a microphone connected to your PC then when you select the 'Audio' tab you will see an option down the left side of the preview screen to 'Record Voice' - make sure that the cursor in your timeline is over an empty space in the narration track - then click on the 'Record Voice' icon - set your levels and record your commentary.

Sounds are inserted into either audio track exactly the same as videos are to the video tracks - just drag and drop them from the audio library pane down into one of the audio tracks. You can import sounds into the audio library in exactly the same way as you import videos to the video library, - in fact as long as you are in the audio tracks you can basically do anything with a sound clip that you can do with a video clip, for best results use .wav files but UVS8 will also accept MP3 files.
