Is there capture support for Micro DV????

Post by Sean_Mass »

I have the Sony DCR-IP220 Micro DV video camera which is a real problem when it comes to finding software to capture and edit movies. I saw support for MPEG4 listed with the new Studio 10 and was hoping I finaly found what I have been looking for for the last year. I downloaded the trial version and it recognizes my camera, scans the tape but finds nothing. I took a second look at what the mpeg4 support was saying and it seems to indicate it's a supported OUTPUT

Is there anyway this software will support capture of MPEG4 from my sony camera?

Hi Sean Mass, and welcome to the forums..:)

I done a quick read on Camcorder info.com. This is what I found in regards to software compatibilty.
Camcorderinfo.com Review wrote:MicroMV and Video Transfer
The MicroMV format saves MPEG video to the tiny tapes. The maximum tape size you can get is 60 minutes. The tapes are the smallest available today. Although the camcorder transfers the digital video to computer via Firewire, it is only compatible with Sony Movieshaker and other Sony video editing products. The imported video is okay, but it's not as great quality as MiniDV. Movieshaker is included with the camcorder for free. Many people, including myself see this as one of the biggest detractors of the IP220 and the entire IP line. Without jumping through hoops you can't get the video editing into a serious video editing program. The Movieshaker program is very limited in what you can do, and you won't be able to accomplish any thing more than simple, inaccurate editing in the program.
So it's a Sony Proprietary Issue, as usual. They do make some good products, however they try to force you to use Sony only products with them.
