Using trial version with no luck with a large project

Post by will413 »

I worked with COOL3D Production Studio for a month and thought that it was going to serve my purpose. When I first started my project it worked great and I was very interested in the program. I don't know what the limit on objects are on this program but somewhere along the line after a hundred objects or two everything went to hell in a basket when trying to animate my objects. When I would go to other frames to move and rotate my objects it would cause the objects in the previous frames to change there move and rotation. I tried pining the move and rotation on each frame and tried going back and realigning the objects but that did not work but just made thing worse. Even the texture move and rotation would change. I guess the program is great for small projects but the larger they get it seems there are problems with the program. I guess I will have to Waite till Ulead gets the bugs out in the next trial version to see if it will work.

There could also be problems with your system, don't really know nothing about that though. Do you have oodles of physical RAM to support such large projects?

How large is the project you are working on? Like Heinz-Oz asked, do you have gigs and gigs of RAM? Just for an example it can take about an hour to render a 5-10 seconds project.

Some of the problems you describe don't appear to be the fault of the program, but correct behavior. If you are referring to Pinning as using the Thumbtacks, then they don't do anything to alter the attributes of the objects.
Cool 3D PS Manual wrote:Thumbtack Allows you to mark attributes where you assigned key frames. You can use these marked properties as reference while you work on other objects in the animation. The attribute where the thumbtack is enabled remains on top of the Attribute List even if you might already be working on a different object.
When changing the attributes for a single object you must ensure that you do not have a Group selected in the Object Manager. Also any Global Effects are applied to all the objects in a project.

Using trial version with no luck with a large project

I have about 1.5 Gb of memory with a 2.2 P4 GHz processor. I have about 49% left after I load my project. I have run the program with all my other programs running and did not effect anything up to a point until I loaded a ton at one time. I have shut all programs down and did not make a difference. I can animate from one to two frames but when I go to the third the problems starts.

It only takes about 6.5 minutes to load the project. It seems like the time that it takes to load the project has changed some but not a great deal as I added more objects. My memory can range from 49% to 55%. I can't remember what it was at the beginning of the project. Is there a way to lock each frame?

I tried once again on another computer to see if I could work with the project. I deleted everything out of the project but the part that I was trying to animate. I cut the load time to 3 minutes. The same problem came up. I changed one frame and it caused the objects in the other frames to lose their place. End of story.

Does anyone know of a program similar to Cool 3D Studio that is more stable for large projects?

When you animate a project in C3D / C3DPS, if the Smart Rendering feature is on then C3D / C3DPS will cache each frame in the memory. Once the frame memory is cached, when you play the animation again it will render directly from the cached memory so it can render faster.

If the dimension of your project is large and the frames is long, then cached memory will grow fast and might exceed the memory limits in the system very soon. You can turn off the Smart Rendering feature to minimize the memory.

To turn off Smart Rendering, select the View menu and uncehck the Use Smart Render item.

Hope this helps.
