Can not set MPEG parameters error

Post by Roy Massen »

Just purchased this retail at CompUSA but it appears that DVD MovieFactory 2SE and the VideoStudio 7 SE I paid for are phased out so no tec support or download of paatches etc???...

And I want to capture some old video tapes for burning on DVD with some quality & don't want to fill my hard drive so want to do it in MPEG. But get the error when I try. I am running windows98SE on a Celeron with 512 ram. Thank you, Roy

Roy,

you didn't mention anything about the hardware you're using and your profile is empty. I don't think anybody is going to guess :-)

Anyway, the patches for older products are available for download. It's explained here...

[quote="maddrummer3301"]I don't see how you could have purchased such old versions still available at CompUSA.
I would take it back and EXCHANGE/Upgrade the packages for one of the below products.

I agree and was thinking now that is why it was on sale...... But I didn't think that a store like CompUSA would do it that way (expected that they would return outdated software to the mfg) instead of pawning it off on the public.

Thank you for posting the link,

Roy

Snoops - I really apreciate your response, I thought I had given the info needed for the type of question I was asking but maybe not.

I did not realize I had to go into the PDF file to get the link for the patches... Got sidetracked by the sales pitch to upgrade. Guess I am getting too cynical these days.....

Looks like the patch did address the MPEG problem so I am downloading it as I type :-)

I downlaoded and installed the all except the CD?DVD Burning Patch because I got a Acrobat error message "could not open the file"javascript"

After unzipping and installing all updates I still get the error "cannot set MPEG parameters"

Thank you for any ideas, Roy

Use the Hauppauge WinTV 2000 capture software that came with your Hauppauge device. It's made specially for your hardware. The Ulead "SE" software is thrown-in as part of the package. (There are some Hauppauge updates for some Ulead products.) There is no technical support for the "SE" versions that come free with hardware.

The Hauppauge device has a built-in MPEG encoder, so you are feeding MPEG to the USB bus. Movie Factory doesn't really expect to see MPEG. It expects to be fed DV, which it will convert to MPEG if you choose that option.

After you've got a video file on your hard drive, you can use Movie Factory to make a DVD.

I have a Hauppauge PCI card, and the MPEG encoder does a great job. But, some of us have had really nasty problems when we've edited MPEGs. (MPEG is not supposed to be edited.) If you transfer without editing, everything should be fine. If you plan on editing, it's "hit or miss". :?

Thanks for the response.

This is not software that came with hardware - I purchased it at Compusa.

In frustration I installed the other Ulead produt that I purchased "Videostudio 7 SE DVD"

Maybe I need to go to another board but both are Ulead products. After Installing the Videostudio I am able to capture in the MPEG format to my hard drive with it but it does not see my burner internal "HP 635"

The reason for all this was to make DVD's of my old VHS tapes. I want to use the MPEG format because of the size om ny hard drive.

I tried using DVDMovieFactory to burn the disc with the MPEG made from Virtual studio but when I proceed pasat the preview window to what looks like the burn window "no burner found"

Am I missing something in the whole process?

This has me wondering why a store that I usually trust like CompUSA is selling them packaged to me not with hardware???

CD/DVD Burning Patch

Post by Roy Massen »

I have been unable to get the CD?DVD Buring Patch linked on the DMF2_Eng PDF file. Think I need it?

Since installing all the other pathches the software does not recognize my dvd burner.

Get a program not found window =
Windows cannot find Program.exe.
This program is needed for opwning files of type 'AudioCD",
etc.

" burner found " is in a greyed out Disc bruner section of the Finish window.

my dvd burner is a (HPdvd635).

Any other ways to get it?

Thank you, Roy
