OVERLAY TRACK
I am adding stills to the begining of my movie, so i am using the overlay track for the stills and the video track for the movie - am i right in saying i have to insert some black colour on the video track to move the movie along so it starts after the stills?

kydhol -- yes, you can do that (add black or any other colour matte to fill the time taken by the still images in the overlay track). But why are you putting the images in the overlay track in the first place? They can also go in the main video track and then you won't need to use a colour matte.
