What is the effect of checking "do not convert complian

Post by JoReneA »

Does anyone know why checking "do not convert compliant mpg files" results in being able to fit much less video onto a DVD. I am using avi files and was finding that I could not fit nearly as much video with ULead as I had been able to do with another program. However, when I unchecked "do not convert compliant mpg" box, the size of the video went down considerably. What, exactly, happens when that option is selected. And how does it apply to avi files? I'm finding the program does not give enough information to make choices on things like this.

Thank you!

"the do not convert" is a excellent tool if your files are already DVD compliant. This insures your video isn't reencoded.

For AVI you can uncheck it. This affects you because your audio is pcm which takes up a lot of space but is compliant. It won't convert to mpeg audio or AC3 if you have the box checked.

I'm not exactly sure how MF handles "the do not convert" when checked. It may just not convert files that meet your project setings. In DVD Workshop however you can use this to put mutiple types of video with different settings. Even 4:3 and 16:9 on the same disc.
