I am fairly new to video editing, and i seem to be spending a lot of time on simple problems. My first problem is this: I want to put a series of still pictures before the video starts, but how can I insert a new picture in the middle of some i have already added? If i want to add a 5 second picture I have to move all the rest along a bit to get the time space to insert the picure?
thanks

In VS10, make sure you have enabled ripple editing -- there is a little icon, consisting of a rectangular box on the left, linked by lines to three smaller rectangular boxes one above the other. This is located to the immediate upper left of the timeline. When it is enabled, everything to the right of your insertion point will move further right to accomodate your new addition.

but just to clarify things a little - you do NOT need to "make space" to insert a still or a video - just drag it from the library and drop it onto the timeline in the position you want it and the rest will move out of the way automatically. ONLY if you have items in other tracks - like overlay, music, title etc. do you need to enable 'Ripple editing' to make sure they all move as well.
