Widescreen effect?

Lots of video's Ive seen are a normal size and they somehow add some effect or something too make it a widescreen giving the video black on the top and the bottom of the screen. Is there a way to do this on Ulead Video Studio??

Also is there some newb guide somewhere on this site about codecs and such for WMV... Every single output I put too WMV are terrible quality..

As far as resizing 4:3 to 16:9, Trevor Andrew has written an excellent tutorial on this subject available here...

I would strongly recommend giving that (and the rest of his site) a read. He's a very knowledgable guy, and explains things in a very straight forward fashion (much better than I could hope to).

I don't often use the WMV options so I'm afraid I can't help on that front, sorry.
