DRAWING the red line for the Indiana Jones map - how?
I want to draw the red line for the Indiana Jones effect, but when I use the photo editing software I have on my computer (either "old" or "free") when I save the new map with the red line the quality of the map has deteriorated - it's as if my filters can't handle saving a hi-red JPG.
What software can you recommend for light graphic work that has to be saved at high resolution? Freeware or affordable-ware would be nice (maybe Ulead has a product?)
Also, one other question - how big should your photos be resolution wise for viewing on a large screen TV? Will VS 10 automatically "downsize" my photo to th ecorrect resolution, thereby saving space?
Thanks

TV standards stipulate certain colors as not suitable. Full red is one of them. It oversaturates and bleeds out. If you use PAL/NTSC compliance filters, the colors are going to be modified to suit and red will not be as bright as it was supposed to be.
VS is going to down size your images but, being a video editor, is not very good at it. It's best to use an image editor to do the resizing to TV frame size. It's not a question of will it or not, your TV is only going to display one frame size and DVD only accepts one or fractions of that, not more. DVD PAL = 720 x 576, NTSC = 720 x 480.
ULEAD PhotoImpact is suitable, I use it very successfully but I don't save my images in jpeg. Jpeg is a lossy compression and letting a video editor compress a lossy compression image again, it's a double loss
My images for use with MSP, VS is essentially the same for this purpose, are saved in bmp format and sized to the frame size relevant for the project. Widescreen is still the same frame size but the pixels are not square. I won't even attempt explaining this here.
Search this forum for widescreen and you will find ample information on that.

A surprisingly versatile freeware photo/graphics editing program is GIMP, which can be found at http://gimp.org/

Free "paint" application
If you have not heard of it might I bring your attention to a great piece of freeware called paint.net.
It is a very capable microsoft paint-like application but with much more functionality. It has layers for example, can deal with multiple file formats such as JPEG, Gif, Tiff etc and has loads of effects such as zoom rotate crop brightness, contrast, hue saturation and loads more. It can also resize images using different units including pixels.
There is also a good support forum with tutorials, problem solving and tips - very like this forum in fact.
New releases are constantly being made to keep it up to date and respond to suggestions from users.
The developers are microsoft people - I hope that is taken as a positive rather than a negative! - who started it off as a university project.
I don't use high end photo software so I cannot compare it with photoshop and I'm sorry I cannot help with your red line but have a look. It does all the things I want from an image editor.
regards, Stuart Burnley

Fortunately Michael Santarossa has not taken his website down yet - and he has a method of doing the "Indiana Jones map" within VideoStudio on his Webpage here :-

My anti-spyware soft prevented me from looking at this link. I would advise anyone having been there to do an in depth system check.BrianCee wrote:Fortunately Michael Santarossa has not taken his website down yet - and he has a method of doing the "Indiana Jones map" within VideoStudio on his Webpage here :-
