When I click on "Capture Video", it immediately goes to "change field order"
and then reaches 50% and freezes.
I have XP Media Center Edition which might be the problem.
In the past I got around this problem but don't remember how.
I have finally been able to use the HP system to capture my VHS tapes using Sonic but the capture size is about 54 MB per minute. Isn't that pretty low quality?
Thanks
Alex
VS9 freezes when changing field order.

This started to happen to me this weekend. First of all, I didn't even know what changing field means..but I started getting the pop-up box. But it would finish to 100%. Then when I clicked on capture, the capture screen would come up but then immediately VS9 would close. I saw that my capture device had changed from ADS tech device (which is what use) to 'webcam' device. I kept trying to change it on the drop down box, but it wasn't seeing my ADS device. Then I found a preference option and it found the ADS device and VS9 started working again.
Here's what Ulead tech support had to say about the problem. Wish they had put something on the box about it no working with XP.
"We understand that this Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition is a very new platform. Our R&D is currently testing this new platform and verifying if Ulead software will work properly with this system. We will keep you posted for any developments regarding this issue or you may visit our website regularly for any updates. However, with the current system, I'm afraid that Ulead software may not be able to work properly with this system since Microsoft may prevent some third party application not to work with their system (since its their right) for the OS user to be loyal with that OS and to support (only) their proprietary and very own software, plug-ins and enhancements.
Thank you."

It seems to be the luck of the draw: in the past, a few people seem to have had no trouble getting VS to work with Media Centre. But many others appear to have had troubles.
As for Ulead not mentioning it on their box, I think you will find that under the operating systems the VS *will* work with, Media Centre is *not* mentioned.

This is just my opinion, but since Ulead developed VS10 to work with MCE, and they seem to have a track record for not modifying older versions, I would say don't hold your breath for Ulead to come out with a patch for an older version.
If you are needing a version to work with MCE, you will have to upgrade to VS10 or 10+..

Thanks Vidoman,
I didn't know that V10 worked with MCE. I wonder why the tech didn't mention that? Sounds like the easier way to go. I have an unused copy of XP and was considering partitioning my hard drive and installing it so I could work with V9, but I would have to buy Partition Magic and then deal with the hassle of to systems. I'll look into the cost of an upgrade.

Follow up.
I wrote to tech support again and asked them specifically about VS10 and MCE. They sent me the same canned answer they sent before--

I sent them this reply--
That is the same canned answer you gave me about VS9! Can you give me a real answer to a real question rather than a canned answer.
1. . XP Media Center is not new. It was introduce in Sept 2003.
2. I asked about VS10,
3.Several people in the forum you guys recommend said VS10 works with MCE. I suggest you set them straight if that is not true
4. This was the second time I asked the question.. The first time was in a reply to an answer from a tech. I never got a reply back. Are you guys to busy to reply???
5. Your reply form is messes up and I have to type out the answer in a word processor and then paste it into the reply section. I cannot type and edit in the section itself.
