Thank you two masters very kindly.

I promise you that I would not bug you two for the next one full month as I will be busy transfering my precious MINI DV tapes into DV-Avi..... :)

The only exception is: If after following the procedure and using the sofeware mentioned, I still could not find a way to have my tapes' native data stored in DV-AVI format in my PC's HDDs

Very best wishes, from

   What did you use, what did you expect to get and what have you got? How exactly did you do it with what software and how did you connect the devices? 8)

You are right. Indeed, I still have lots of Super8 [yes, those 4-minute large film] tapes that I have not had a chance watch. I had been waiting for the perfect projector and silver screen....

Please allow me to ask one last question :( before i "rest my case." That is:

What is the best method [or software/wardware if needed] to transfer my Mini DV tapes, thorugh my PC, onto HDDs in DV AVI format?

[I have decided, after studying all you experts' instructions, to do this]

Since you and other masters have always been patient. Please bear with me with this "last question". :(

Thank you, by Leo

Reference your Super 8 tapes please view

Reference you Mini DV Tapes please view
From Camcorder to DVD with VideoStudio

There is very little difference between VideoStudio and MovieFactory in relation to the capture and authoring stages. the main difference between the two products is that VideoStudio includes an editing phase.

My above masters, I failed you all and am about to give up

All my wonderful masters above:

After receiving so many replies from you and after taking up so much of your time, I have come to a final dicison.

My final decision is to : Transfer my native, virgin data in my MINI DV tapes to PC HDDS in DV-AVI format.

YET, everything I tried ended up with MPEG-2 or its "clones". All involved some degree of compression.

I tried direct captures with firewire and USB [like i did with my stand alone DVD recorders]. Won't work at all.

So, I tried Sonic MY DVD, Video Studio, Movie Factory, Magic Movie Editor, ....everything I can find. BUT, none of them would allow me to transfer my tape data onto PC HDDs in DV-AVI format. None. None whatsoever.

Would my masters helped me out ? You have already given me so much of your time and professional advice, please give me one last push.

To repeat myself: I merely want to know how to "transfer my Mini DV virgin native data in to PC HDD in DV-AVI format".... Is it too much to ask?

I read those "new" advice carefully as well...to no avail.
A desperate teacher: Leo, with thanks.
Thanks, from Leo[/b]

It's not too much to ask at all (of the software, that is - not sure why you have not been able to figure it out in 3 years of research ...)

Connect your camcorder by FireWire to your PC.

If you open VideoStudio 10, select VideoStudio editor from the splash screen.

Select Capture step

Click on "Capture Video"

It will recognize your camcorder under "Source"

Under "Format" - select DV-AVI

Set the capture folder where you want the video to capture - usually best if this is not the same as your system drive)

Select "Split by scene"

Click "Capture video"

That's it, really.

You can in fact capture to DV-AVI in MovieFactory 5 too. If wnat to do that and can't figure it out from the menu, I'll explain to you.

Dear Master Bignosetw:

Thank you very much for the last, critical and crucial push.

I got it. And I will spend the next few months enjoying transferring my data in th PC HDDs in AVI. 8)

It indeed took a lots of pieces to put the puzzle together; plus good advice and in particular a great deal of nice professionals to "educate" me enough to reach this point. And it is not easy for me....but glad I finally got it now.

I was not exaggerating when I said three years. Actually more than that. I have been shotting videos and photos all my life as my only hobby.

Thanks you all. Life is beautiful but the friendship of you all is even more beautiful and valuable.

Best wishes,
from
