Compliance for replication issues?
A little background. We're a small publishing company which sells instructional DVDs, 15 of them to be exact. For the last few years it's been small potatoes duplication. I've been using DVD Workshop since the get-go (version 2) In the near future I anticipate having to go to replication for the large quantities. I'm not very technical so I'm trying to get the bottom line on DVD Workshop 2 authored projects and replication test errors. I've saved all the projects to image files. All the projects are standard DVD-5. Will I be able to use these files/discs for replication? I'm hoping I don't have to hear that I have to go back and re-author all 15 of them in a different program in order to pass some test for replicating.

I do loads of duplicating, (burning) from just a few to thousands and have discs come from all types of apps and customers. As it's just a question of copying them, it makes no odds what is made to make the disc.
Replication or glass mastering woukld be no different. Some places may ask for the work to be on DLT, but this would be too expensive for you to set up, so search for one which offers replication from disc.
Any errors on the disc you supply will be replicated on the copies, but good places should test the disc before copying to ensure all is ok.

I wonder if the replication house has some sort of validation program?
I'm not a professional, but I have a really good reference book called DVD demystified. I don't have it with me right now, but it has a chapter or section about what to look for... maybe a checklist... before sending out your master DLT.
In general, I find it useful for for looking up stuff like what bitrates are valid, or unusual stuff like what MPEG-1 formats are valid. There is some history of video "nonsense" in the book too, but most of it's 700 pages are solid technical information, and technical recommendations.
So far, I haven't run-across a situation where Workshop did something that the book says is invalid. (Except, maybe It did allow me to put MPEG audio on an NTSC DVD...)

Then you will have no trouble getting them replicated.dax702 wrote: within the spec
Replication and duplication are both just copying the disc you supply.
When I said test the disc in my first post, the better quality duplicating machines used for burning several discs at a time, such as I use, do a dvd test first to ensure that the disc will play properly, before commencing with the copying.
