Seperate background music for each chapter ?

Post by ghoofie »

So once you have your chapters added in, can you add different sound for each seperate chapter?

I am not sure what you mean. Background music would normally be included during the editing stage. So if you wanted each chapter to have distinct music which starts exactly when the chapter does on your burnt DVD, then you would need to be using VS10 and inserting chapter points in the timeline. Then you would have to use either SmartSound to produce a music clip which fits exactly from the start point to end point of the chapter (or a combination of clips, with the last one timed to end exactly at the last moment of a chapter). Or else you would need to use a third party audio editing program to compile your music for each chapter and again make the cuts fit between the chapter points exactly. Then in the authoring stage, you would need to use the chapter points from the editing phase and confirm them as the final chapters.

If using a version earlier than VS9, then you would have to do the above to time the music to fit what you want as a chapter, but of course, you will not have the chapter marks in the editing phase to act as guides. Then, in the authoring stage, you will need to work through the video manually when selecting chapter points to ensure your music matches exactly as well.

Or do you mean something else?

I want each chapter to have it's own seperate music. I captured some old home movies (silent). So for example, chapter 1 is vacation at Disneyland, so I want Disneyland music for that chapter. Chapter 2 is, say, Christmas home video. So I want Christmas music for chapter 2.
I have all the music I want in WAV's on my PC already.

So I was thinking OK chapter 1 is 3 min. So I can make a 3 min wave file and drop that into chapter 1. Chapter 2 is 6 minutes, so I can make a wav file for 6 minutes and drop/drag that into chapter 2 ? Or is it more complicated than that ?

No - it is as easy as that - BUT - you must do it in the editing timeline - not in the 'Create Disc' function - if you have version 10 that will be very easy because you can create chapters in the timeline and therefore apply the music to each chapter.

If you have a version before V10 then you still have to do it in the timeline - but it is a little more difficult there because you can't actually see the chapters - a little bit of experimentation with the length of the music may be required to get it exactly right.

just drag and drop (or insert) your .wav files into the music track of the timeline.

music per chapter in timeline

Yes, those chapter insert points are really great. I was considering moving up to MS8 just for some cue function to make my video more music centric. Also the multiple video tracks...now those are in VS, perhaps not in the same high level capacity, but they worked for me in the download trial package. Also, just a note of info as I have been using VS9 while waiting for my boxed VS10+ and PI11 shipment to come in...I have never had any crash or problem with just clicking on Create Disk and burning straight to DVD drive. Guess I am just lucky on that one.
