device not connected when attempting capture
When I attempt to capture from DV, I get a "device not connected or driver not installed" message. The driver is installed and the device is connected. What should I check? I though perhaps the fire wire port at the back might be loosely connected. Thoughts?

Hi Sphinx, and welcome to the forums..
Do you get the Windows prompt and tone when you turn on your camcorder? You should be able to see your camcorder as a device in Windows Explorer, like another drive. If not, then it could be a problem with the firewire cable or port.
What capture device are you using in the Capture Step? It should be the MS 1394 Device Control. In the capture step, with your camcorder plugged in, and turned on, go to Tools, Select Device Control. Also to to Tools>Change Capture Plug-In. It should show UleadDirectShow Capture Plug-in.

I am not even sure he is trying to connect to a mini DV camera... But if not, then what is it? A hardwired capture device which allows direct DV capture? Quite a riddle of the sphinx!
Sphinx, can you put us out of our misery, please, and tell us exactly what you are connecting and how, please.
