Fade In/Out & repetition (Tweening, Global Info)

Post by nicklex »

Dear Ulead GIF-Animator-Friends,

I have just begun to use that tool. But, I have found out
how to fade in or out (if I have a picture)?

* Well, in my f/x-Video-Effekts there is only diagonal or other fancy stuff, although I only need a simply (but smooth) fade in. Where can I find it?

* I used the Tween to fade in - works like a fade in-Effekt (though I don´t understand what´s the real function behind tween). Now, how/where can I change that the animation (made with tween) doesn´t repeat?

Thanks in advance! :D

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are wanting the animation to play only once, and not repeat...

If that is the case, you need to click the "Global Information" button Image on the standard toolbar. It can also be found by clicking "Edit, Global Information."

Global information lets you set the animation as having either infinite looping, or a set number of loops. If you set looping at 5, the animation will play 5 times and stop at the last frame.

thanks! And Fading in?

Thank you for your reply!

Well, and how do I fade in? I mean just normal fading without any fancy extra-effects? I haven´t found a fade-in at the f/x-video-effects. Is it only able with tween? :?: By the way what is the difference between tween and a f/x-video-effect? :?:

Tween would be the way to fade, in or out.

Tweening is a method for creating new frames, or updating the frames between two frames that contain the same objects but with different attributes - either different positions or transparency. By doing this, the objects appear to be moving or fading when the animation is played.

Video F/X are like plug-in filters, that apply pre-programmed effects to your image.

You would tween the transparency of the object. For example, Frame 1 would have your background. Frame 2 has the background and your object. With the tween button, you would select to insert frames, and to tween the transparency.

You end up with something like this:

There are three tweening tutorials on my site. http://vikingswebanimation.ca/tuts/

Hey Robert,

thank you for your fast answer and the nice ghost-example :)

So then, I know pretty much how to use it. The only question I still have is how to use tween for changes of the position. I only recognize changes when I choose the attribut Transparency. If I choose Position there is no change in the animation?

I made your tutorial - thanks man, for all the work you did to give other people the opportunity to learn that tool in a short time! I made the UFO-GIF and the Mordor-Dragon-GIF. Tween is a great function!

I tried another GIF: The blinking of a a monkey (see below). I guess, that is not possible with Tween (only having pictures of a monkey with open eyes and closed eyes). So you have to paint different pictures with different eye postions, right? That´s what I did. Takes a bit more time...

Thank you for the kind words, Nick!

Tweening is a great feature indeed.

Your blinking monkey looks great - and yes, that's the way to do that one. Tweening does a few things, but certainly not all.

Keep animating! :)
