Improving things in Videostudio 10...

Since Tobie is monitoring, here's my wish list (some repeats of above requests...)

1) Ability to view all your video overlay tracks in the timeline at once. Right now it's a ridiculus game of cat and mouse trying to edit 4 or 5 overlay tracks because you can't view them at once with the sound and video track, too.

2) Being able to cut video clips in the overlay track - also be able to add transitions in the video track.

3) A PER PROJECT library. Again, it's astonishing how cluttered the library gets when you are editing your fifth or sixth project (I do a small TV show and need to reuse some clips and dump others, so I can't "clean slate" the library every project).

4) Dual monitor capability would be great.

5) Probably the most important, so listen up Tobie: When I used to fire up Video Studio 9 I was treated to a photo of the absolutely ravishing Ulead Videostudio girl. She was hot! VS 10+? I get a few porpoises jumping out of lake. Not good. Bring back the girl and I'll let you slide on the dual-monitor capability.

If you want semi pro features, get a semi pro program like MSP, I run my MSP 7.3 with two monitors and a TV simultaneously.

If Ulead were to put all these features into an entry level program, it would be too expensive for a budding video editor to try. Once you now your way around and want more features, you can get them but you'd have to pay for them.

There are a number of budget video and photo editors with dual monitor support. It isn't that big a deal to add it. Even if VS just allowed separating of the various workspaces or nesting of tool groups, that would be an improvement.

Do you consider Avid, Vegas 6 budget video editors? Last time I checked Sony's budget video editor, Vegas Movie Studio does not support dual monitor. What are some of the budget video editors that do? Just curious as most of the ones I have looked at are not what I'd call budget or consumer products.

I'm considering the Vegas offerings, but I can't seem to find any word on support of analog capture on their website. I am awaiting a response to a query to tech support on that. I have a copy of Magix Movie Edit Pro 11 and it supports dual monitors and sells for $49 at Fry's. I like being able to put my workspace on my main monitor and have my preview window on my secondary. It also supports individual palettes (for lack of a better word) like Photoshop.

Meshuken -- re your wish 3) -- I'm not sure what you mean. The ability to create project specific libraries already exists. That is what Library Manager is for (Tools > Library Manager > New). You can also create custom folders there not only for video, but also for audio, images and titles.

Reactor,

In your original post, you mentioned,
Better audio keyframe control....The ability to delete a keyframe! (It's hard to believe this option doesn't exist).
I am able to do this by clicking and dragging an audio keyframe upward and off the rubber band and then releasing. Works for me everytime.
Cheers,

1. Being able to cut and past items within the timeline. (not only in library)
2. Creating your own custom disc menu's and saveing them to the gallery.
3. Being able to save a disc creation menu project under its own name.
4. Better support for photo slideshows, either from the timeline or like MF5.
5. Vertical adjustment in timeline. Stretch window up or down.

Machineman,

I as far as I know, VS10+ allows you to do this. In the menu creation step, click on the Edit tab, then click on the word "Customize". Edit your menu, then click on the words "Add to menu template" below the menu preview screen. Your customized menu is then saved to your Gallery under "Favorites".
Cheers,

Hi Ken, maybe I should have been more clear. here's from a previous post of mine and I was told that it was not possible in VS 10+:

"In VS 10+ is there a way to create a library within a library, i.e. a folder within a folder?"

"This would be great for me to keep things organized bceause then you could have a separate folder for each project and separate folders withing that one for sounds, pics, graphics, video, etc..."

My problem is that I would like to place the audio clips for a specific project in a folder with that projects library, but I can't figure out how to do this.

Sort of like how Microsoft lets you keep placing folder after folder into a chain...

overlay title tracks

Post by brucefl »

I didn't pay 99, guess it is the good thing about upgrading.
I asked the question in a previous post.

Like to see multiple at least another one, title track.
If you want to put a few different titles going on
at the same time, but different effects, I do not think
it can be done. At least not according to the reply

Sure, multiple titles can be applied at the same time in a title clip and each can have its own Animation. That's the beauty of selecting "Multiple titles" on the edit tab of the Title Step, instead of selecting "Single title".

2 different titles running at the same time

Post by brucefl »

You can run multiple titles, but how do you get them to work at the same time? One title can go after another? two or three running at the same time?
Unless I am doing something wrong, because you can not overlap them in the time line. You have one start and you want another one maybe a few seconds running concurrantly?

You are correct, that with VS it does not support having several titles running at the same time. You can work around this by doing an intermediate render, then bringing that back into VS, adding more titles. VS's big brother MSP is needed to add titles that run simultaneously.
