Burn DVD crashes DWS2 & freezes system

Post by marcvanimpe »

Purchased DWS2 2 weeks ago to be able to make nice DVD menu's from my MSP8 projects.
Made a couple of projects (one based on AVI-files and one on DVD-files).
As soon as I hit the "burn to DVD" button from the preview window, DWS2 crashes and Windows XP freezes. It takes AGES to warm-reboot.

After having gone through numerous threads on this forum:
- uninstalled Nero InCD and any program that is reported to be suspect.
- un- and re-installed DWS2 (completely).
No change.
Uninstalled MSP8 and DWS2 (thoroughly as described in other threads).
Re-installed DWS2... and it works fine.
Installed update patch 4... and it still works fine: I can burn to DVD, to DVD-folders and DVD-image file.
Installed update patch 5 and problem is back.
Uninstalled everything again and re-installed DWS2 with patch 4 (last known working environment), then installed MSP8. Problem is back.
THEN overwrite files in Common ULead Files DVD folder with those of initial installation (kept a copy of the folder after clean install). Works fine... except that I have no more audio in the DVD-files based project (at least; that is the only problem I have come across sofar).
Uninstalled everything (must be about 20 times that I did that now) and installed MSP8 first, then DWS2. Problem stays.

Tech support so far has done nothing else then to advise to un-install and re-install the program with the latest patch and asked to send my system info to them a week ago... have not heard anything back yet.
How can it be that a patch and/or a program from the same company make another useless???
 I have had EXACTLY the same problem in the past with DMF5. (That was solved after tech support sent me a link to a new download version.) However; that program did not live-up to (my) expectations so I purchased DWS2 for more flexibility.
There MUST be a way to pinpoint the cause of the problem :?:
Anybody any experience from the past?

An unhappy customer.

All of my crashes (and "lip sync" problems) have been caused by corrupt video files. In my case they were MPEGs. My bad MPEGs always played fine, so it can be hard to diagnose.
...from my MSP8 projects.... one on DVD-files.
Try making an unedited version. DVDs are MPEG-2 and my MPEGs got corrupted simply by editing them them.
...one based on AVI-files...
What type of compression? An AVI is a "container" format, and it can contain DV, MPEG, DivX, etc. You shouldn't have any trouble with AVI/DV, but if you are working with AVI/DivX you are really asking for trouble.

Should not be the reason

MPEG's are un-edited.
AVI's are DV.
