HI - please help - i am having difficulty playing video clips in my slide show - i am using version 9. the clips are in mov format, i have 2G of RAM in my computer - i tried splitting the audio,,,,,,but it just wont play - it just shows the starting frame of the video,,,,,
I might also add that if the .mov file uses the MJPEG codec, you will need that codec inorder for VS to play it.
I recently purchased a new digital still camera (Kodak EasyShare P880), and it has the typical "feature add-on" of recording video to a MOV file. It uses the MJPEG codec. The software that came with the camera installed the codec on my system. Just out of curiosity I recorded a short 1 min clip, then imported that into VS10 +. I was surprised that I had no problems with VS playing and editing it.
That's normal behavior for previewing your project. VS has to put everything together "on the fly". Previewing a project is just an idea of how it is going to look.
oooohhhhh, you are such an encourager - i really appreciate your help - its so frustrating the first time you go through things - well, i went ahead to burn the show, and twice now it has had an error in the middle and didnt finish,,,,,any idea as to what im doing wrong?
And I bet you went straight from having the edited project in the timeline to burn the disc. If you read the Recommended Procedures in the top sticky posting on this Board, you will see that we recommend that, once you are finished editing, ALWAYS go first to Share > Create Video File > DVD to produce a DVD-compatible mpeg-2.
Once you have produced this mpeg-2 file, and ONLY then, close your project, open a new one with an empty timeline, and go to Share > Create Disc > DVD. In the burning module which then opens, insert the mpeg-2 file(s), create your menus and burn.
I might add that when burning, only use a maximum burn speed of 4x, regardless of the rated speeds of both your burner and the discs you are using.
thanks so much for letting me know that - when everythign is new to you, its so hard to look at and read everything - especially when you are trying to do it quickly - i'll let you know if im still stuck!!
Could you explain how you are Saving? Are you just saving the project file (*.vsp), by going to File Save or Save as? Or are you referring to Share>Create Video File? If it is the latter, then it can take some time for VS to Render your video file. It has to assemble all the clips with the cuts, transitions, filters, effects, audio, images, etc.. to a single file. The project you are working on, (the *.vsp file) is just a bunch of instructions for the final Video File to be constructed from.
Depending on your computer's resources, rendering to the DVD-compliant mpeg-2 can take anything from around real time (mine usually averages 1.25 hours for one hour of video) to three or four (and occasionally more) times than that. So be patient. And if you get it done right, then in the burning to disc stage, this long stage will not be repeated, and the only time taken will be to prepare your menus, multiplex the video and audio, and do the actual burn.
