Just to settle the doubt, the microscopic analysis was done on Verbatim DVD-R 8x, burnt at 8x and 2x: the difference was easily seen. At the same time, I did a single one with a Memorex DVD-R 4x, burnt at 2x and the burn pattern had an identical appearance to the Verbatim. I stand by what I say that slow burning is better than fast.

Just my small observation. I don't see why people get so passionate about using a lower burn speed. Consider the amount of time spent during the editing stage which could range from hours to even weeks.

Why worry about the saving of a few minutes. On a standard single layer disc a 4x burn takes about 15 minutes, at 8 speed you probably save about 6 minutes so why the big deal over such a small saving?

If it works for you then fine carry on burning at higher speeds, if you're having problems lower the speed to see if that was one of the problems.

Burning DL DVD

Post by middlebury madness »

Just a quick update....

I just finished another project.... ( I am transfering and chaptering my analog movies to DVD and therefore run into situations where I have 2+ hours of movies and would like to keep them on one disk)

This one was 2hrs 10 min, 4 chapteres.... It successfully burned on the first try.... I created a DVD file as well as a ISO file. I used Roxio Disc copy to copy from the ISO file to my DL External burner. I set the speed at 2.4 the lowest setting... burned two copies on Verbatim DVD+R-DL. I think there may be something to the speed thing or maybe I just got lucky.... I previewed the dvd file first on the computer and everything seemed fine. It may be that the Ulead DVD image recorder has problems anyway I won't be trying that again too soon ... I do agree that DL media is still quite pricy but when it solves a problem it is worth it!

Thank you for the help
