Vro files

Post by antelope1 »

I am at wits end. I purchase MF5 for the purpose of editing vro files. It will not let me import them. What am i doing wrong.
I get the error DVD disc with css protected report ID 0x80040907(2311).
I have also copied the vro file to my hard drive and tried it that way. But i get a file format mismatch. I am new to this and am frustrated. What do i need to do.
Thanks for any help.

CSS is to prevent copying thats why you cant import (i.e. copy) them.

What the heck are Vro files and what gave you the idea that you can edit them with MF?

I have never looked at MF as an editor. Still use it for DVD authoring of course but I don't even use it to generate my mpeg2 files. I use a proper editor (MSP 7.3) for that.

I'm sorry for you if you did buy it specifically for your stated purpose. Why didn't you use the trial version first to make sure?

VRO files are the files contained on a standalone DVD recorder - similar to a standard DVD with VOB files.

I missed that point... yes it sounds very odd. CSS is something you find on commercially produced DVD's - Hollywood blockbusters and the like.
I find it strange that a DVD recorder would have CSS encryption which is an anti-piracy tool.

It is technically impossible to put CSS on a recordable disc. (That's one reason you can't simply make an exact copy of a CSS protected disc... If you could make an exact copy, it would play just like the original!)

Either MF is totally confused...

Or, your DVD is protected with CPRM
(Copy Protection for Recordable Media). CPRM is rare. This would only be the case if you recorded a copy-protected digital broadcast, and if you have a special DVD burner that can detect the DRM (Digital Rights Managment) broadcast flags, and has CPRM capability. (i.e. the DVR-633H-S.)

If you think you have a CPRM disc, try recording the DVD via an analog connection.

vro files revisited

Post by antelope1 »

First thank you for your replies. Actually I logged onto this board in Apr. or May asking if I could convert VRO files to edit. Now here is the issue. I am coping my old family vhs tapes with a sylvania dvr90vf video to disc recorder. I have a choice. record in vr mode or video mode. I have tried both. Do I finalize the disc. I would like to edit the video from the disc by putting it into movie maker once I find an acceptable file format.. It will not accept VRO or VOB. . I am a newby so take it easy on me. I just want to get some editing done. I tried the trial verson and it worked(And this message board said I could do it. So I bought it.) I am not trying to copy copywrited material or have that intention.
So. My question is. How do I make this work? Any help would be appreaciated. Thank you

Same problems here without the copyright management error issues from a Panasonic desktop DVD recorder. MF4 goes through the entire import process and at the very end tells me there is a file parse error or one of several other similar errors. I have yet to make it work and I'm trying to import these files to author some disks with menus for the various video segments.
