"Invalid Parameter" Error during rendering

Post by LeoNerd »

I am using VS8 and I get this error " Invalid Parameter" each time i start creating my mpeg2 file. Has anyone seen this before or does anyone know what might be the problem?
I appreciate.

The file properties parameters have been exceeded. What are the properties of the file you're editing with and what properties have you selected for video studio to render to?

I am editing an mpeg1 file with mono audio and i am rendering to an mpeg2 with 5.1 audio.

Apart from getting pretty dreadful video quality, you are trying to turn the sow's ear of mono audio into the silk purse of 5.1 Dolby. I can imagine that might be your 'invalid parameter' right there.

As for the video quality, you are trying to convert what is already fairly low quality video (inherent in the nature of mpeg-1) by re-encoding it, which entails some further loss of quality as you go from one lossy format to another. Again, to thrash the metaphor, trying to convert a sow's ear into a silk purse of high quality mpeg-2 is simply not going to happen. At best, you may get much the same quality as the original mpeg-1, but given the re-encoding involved -- and possibly a change in the size format -- the end result is likely to be worse.

Well, the problem is, i have done this before where i take video files from different cameras, some mpeg1 mono, others in different formats and use them in ms8 to create nice movies. All the other times... they worked. However now they don't. So i don't think it is the mono, 5.1 up conversion.

Well, as Terry has already asked, what are the exact properties of the files you are using and the project properties you are using for conversion to mpeg-2? Right click on the files within Video Studio, and copy down the Properties. Project Properties can be found under File > Project Properties. It would also be useful to know your exact work flow and something about your computer specifications...
