How to Bleep Foul language in VS10
Does someone have a quick method to bleep foul language in a video/mpeg stream ?
I have some video clips I need to present in my church and there are some F**K and G** D*** pieces I need to bleep out without trimming/reducing the clips.

Here is a short bleep you can drop in the second audio track:

You can also reduce the volume level of the foul language part through the audio edit view as well as adding the bleep tone to ensure that you cannot hear the bleep out words. Or spilt the audio and then do cuts using scissors for the bleep part on the audio track and adjust the volume level to 0. The video part will not be affected but make sure you have ripple effect on to make sure that the video and audio is syncronized. This will ensuring that no bleep word is heard.
It's funny how your presenting a video with people swearing to your church. Maybe it's best to cut the swearing off completely.

For audio editing, I export the audio to a WAV file, and then I use an audio editor called GoldWave. You could also use Audacity (FREE!!!).
There is an optional censor plug-in for GoldWave that works really well. You can replace the sound with a tone, some other supplied-options including "gibberish" (the same sound scrambled), or a sound of your choice. Most of the time I reverse the sound. That takes a couple of extra steps, but it sounds more natural than a "bleep".... It just makes it unintelligible. (It makes "da*m sort-of sound like "mad", which is usually funny. There's a line in a movie I censored where a woman says "This mad thing"..... I wonder if it makes "god da*m" sound like "mad dog".
)
GoldWave with the plug-in costs about $60 after the free-trial period. I've been using GoldWave for many years... Much longer than I've been editing video. It's a great program. You get free lifetime upgrades, and the technical support is unbeatable. I think it's a one-man compny, and your technical questions are answered by the programmer himself! The only complaint I have about GoldWave, is that it can't edit 5.1 channel sourroun sound... Hopefuly in the next version.

Steve,
Well, does Audacity have a built-in censor function?
Actually, I don't have much experience with Audacity. I've only played around with it a little. Luckily, I'm not qualifed to get into a debate over which one is better!
As you know, Audacity is free and open source. GoldWave is a commercial program, and it has the "look and feel" of a commercial program, although it is "shareware"and it doesn't come with any commercial codecs. You can't get a CD & hard-copy manual version of either program.
GoldWave has a better user manual than Audacity (more screen shots). But, you have to register the program (pay) before you can download the PDF with images.
You get direct technical support from Goldwave. There's no tech support with Audacity, but there's better user-to-user community support (more users).
GoldWave has more built-in features. Some 3rd-party Direct-X plug-ins work with GoldWave, some don't. There are more 3rd-party plug-ins for Audacity. Some Audacity plug-ins may be Linux only
GoldWave is Windows only. Audacity is multi-platform.
Neither program can edit or create a 5.1 channel WAV file!
...At least not yet...
Doug.
