Windows Movie Maker and VideoStudio

Post by Im Debbie »

Hi all I am new to the board and the Ulead Product...Must say I really love it. I am not a pro just a mom who loves taking photos of her son.

My question is this: I made a DVD using the microsoft product a while ago and would like to add it to a project that I have created in Video Studio 10+. The file is now of course a VOB extention. I would like to edit this file within VideoStudio but am unable to add it with all the slides being visable for editing.

Is there a way to edit or convert the file so it can be edited?

:?

Hello Debbie,

First I have a little problem - because I am sure Microsoft Moviemaker does NOT burn DVDs - only CDs and then very special ones - but if you also used another programme that did make a DVD (and mention of .vob makes me think you might have done ) then try this .

Put the DVD into the DVD tray of your computer - cancel any windows messages asking you what you want to do.

In UVS 10 RIGHT click over the timeline and from the pop-out choose "Insert DVD/DVD-VR..." in the next box which opens check that the DVD drive is showing in the drop down - then click on 'Import' - wait for the little green line to finish moving and another window will appear with the content of your DVD showing - choose which bits you want to import by clicking to put a check mark in the little boxes against the details - then click 'Import' and you DVD video should be imported to the timeline for editing. - then treat it just like any other video.

If for any reason that doesn't work - don't panic - just come back and let us know - there are alternative ways of doing it which may work.

Thank you for quick response...

I have tried that and it shows up on timeline but without the transitions and individual slides..Just one long video...I tried all sorts of things to split it up so I could see the slides..

This was a bunch of photos that I put together as a slide show.

Try renaming your .vob files to .mpg and see if that works.

As soon as I get home (Im at work---yuck) I will try and rename the file extension. I really hope that works I will let you know. Thank you all so very much.

The video on your DVD is now just that - one long video - it will not split again on it's own back into individual pictures - that is the nature of a video file - you need the original project file and masters to re-edit it as individual slides again. BUT once it is back in your timeline you now have to use a combination of editing actions - like using the scissors tool to cut out pieces - or "marking in" and "marking out" and then saving trimmed video etc. - maybe even creating new video files from the original - once you have it in your timeline - the world is your oyster !

edit (after seeing blacklabs post) -- sorry but renaming your files to .mpg will still get you the same thing - one long continuous file in your timeline.

Well if worse comes to worse I will do it all over again since I still have the images.

This would be good practice for me anyway.

The tranistions and slides are all mixed together as one video. This was done once you created a DVD. If you are looking at removing the transitions so you have individual slides again, sorry can't be done. You would need to do alot of cutting for that, and since it is an MPEG-2, it will cause loss in quality. If you still have the photos, the best method is to start anew..

Yes, I misread her post. I thought she was saying it wasn't importing completely, that she was missing her transitions and slides. My bad.
