Technical question, clean boot configuration for using VS9
This is probably more of a Windows question, but I am curious is any VS users know of a way to have a really clean boot so that you can use VS with the minimum amount of system tray items, processes running to take up resources and RAM? I did not know if perhaps creating a special USER account for log on with little loading, but VS still available for use. Or download of utility to do this? I have 1 GIG of Ram, but have several things that load that I use for business and general computing productivity. Those leave me with around 450 to 500 MEG of RAM showing free. I could shut them down separately, but what a hassle..any advice from the helpful experts on the forum here?

I think most of the "serious" users here will confirm this. If you want to edit video hassle free, never mind VS, MSP, Adobe Premiere..., have a machine dedicated to that. No other programs running, no internet connection, no virus scanner, firewall etc.
Our own Steve (sjj1805) recently had a tutorial on how to tweak a system for video work and create a hardware profile for that.

Thanks guys!
I found a small tip on Cnet....
Note: You can bypass all the programs in your Startup folder on an as-needed basis. To stop XP from loading any programs in the Startup folder, hold down the Shift key during bootup. No programs in the Startup folder will run, but the items will still remain there so that they will start up as they would normally the next time you boot.
But I will review the Steve link and I appreciate your help!

Video Editor hardware profile and user account setup
yes, it works fine. I am tempted to copy the hardware profile and create a 'clean' account for everyday use similar to the video editor profile, as the system runs so nicely without all the added processes..THANKS STEVE!

Before and after
Before Steve's Hardware profile I had about 450 Meg of 1 Gig RAM free after booting into Windows and before loading VS9.
After Steve's Hardware profile for Video Editing, I had 796 Meg free of 1 Gig after booting into Windows and before loading VS9.
Takes some time to set up, but his Excel reference sheet is most helpful. VS seems to run much smoother under this Video Editor profile.
