I was using VS8. Now I have switched to VS10. I had the same problem with VS twice - first with VS8, and second with VS10, so I decided to ask about it on this forum.
I was making a movie. After editing each clip and adding transitions and title, I wanted to save it. I chose Xvid as a video compression codec (2-pass method). First pass finished w/o any problems. Then I changed xvid settings to 2-nd pass and start rendering. Everything was ok till 99%. When progress was on 99% VS crashed. I get only windows dialog with text like "Video Studio performed illegal operation and needs to be closed bla bla bla". Then I saw the VS's temp file in folder where the output file should be, and it's size was something like 1124 MB. After few tests I realized, that the solution is to divide my project to two other projects, get outputs from both projects singly, and then join both output in one (I used Virtual Dub for that).
I got this problem twice, only when output was very large (I assume 1GB size has smth to do with this) , but both with VS8 and VS10.
I would be gratefull If some expert would explain this "anomaly"
