Saving Steps if Machine Fast Enough

Post by 62cwil »

Within the last mont I saw a post that I can not find today regarding if you had a machine fast enough you could go directly to mpeg or something to that effect.

I use a Cannon Optura 40 and capture to DV-1. After I do everything I usually save a video file and then burn as a DVD. Today I added more memory.

I now have the following:
Dell Dimension 8400
Win XP Home
Pentium 4 3.00 GHz
Processor Speed 2.92 GHZ
Ram Memory of 1024

Can anyone tell me the steps to save going thru several that has been previously discussed or point me to the messages. I have a lot of old 8 mil tapes I want to convert over to DVD's. I know the process for going from Sony Analoy thru my Canon and firewire into my computer. That works fine.
Thanks

Your specs look good enough for software MPEG encoding. Click File > Change Capture Plug-in to make sure the DWS MPEG Capture Plug-in option is selected from the current capture plug-in drop-down list.

Then set your MPEG project properties and capture as normal. That's it. You will now have a DVD compliant MPEG2 file.

Thanks for reply. I did try earlier and not sure what happened. I went to the drop down box and selected MPEG and then to options and selected customize and selected mpeg2 and then had about 10 min to capture. Started out fine and I walked away for 5 min and when I came back only the actual video was on line and rest of screen was black thus I had no way to save or do anything once it got to end of the tape I was doing approx 10 min.

Any ideas?

Were you using the av/dv passthrough feature on your camcorder? If so, make sure you do not have a DV tape loaded. Most cameras will automatically shutdown to save power.

Not sure what you are talking about. I was capturing directly from my Canon Optura 40 Mini DV to my computer via firewire like I normally do.

I was guessing that you were using the passthrough feature on your camcorder through firewire for converting your analog footage to digital format. As for your problem, was there any pause or break in the footage? Sometimes this will stop the capturing process.
