inappropriate copy inhibit on sony D8 / VS7

I'm using VS7 (have 8 but never got around to installing). I made my own tapes, originally on a Canon Hi8, edited with VTK and assembled the old way, and copied onto hi-8, captured into VS7, edited, and I want to export back to D8. I'm doing this from the capture window, have not rendered for this step, and the camera stops, showing the 'copy inhibit' sign. I can manually do the record (using the camera's touchpad), but this is my own original material, and this shouldn't be happening.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
