I am importing TV shows from a DVD (recorded on a Panasonic DMR-ES10 onto Sony discs) and editing out the commercials with VS10+ (upgrade version) to make another DVD. Doing this of course breaks up the project into separate parts and they all play find individually when in the storyboard. In the timeline view however my problem occurs whereby there is some distortion. It is a little hard to describe but when people speak there is a reverberation.
The problem isn’t there when playing an edited clip (which was edited in the storyboard view) in the timeline as long as I did not play the program in the timeline view any further back than the beginning of that individual clip from the storyboard view. If I begin playing a program in the timeline view earlier than where the individual clip begins in the storyboard so that it plays in connection with any other clips (in other words, playing different storyboard view clips together as one big clip in the timeline) then the problem appears. If I started playing an edited clip in the timeline no earlier than its beginning and not at any point earlier in the program in the timeline then the problem was not there. It is when the individual storyboard clips are being played together in the timeline as one big edited program is when this problem is heard.
I contacted Ulead tech support by e-mail and they only offered two suggestions over the past few weeks. One was to follow steps to do a clean reinstall of VS10+ and the other was to adjust the advanced sound settings, neither of which were of any help. I also called the customer line but they have not heard of this problem other than from myself to date. I tried a third reinstall recently and also updated the Intel chipset on the motherboard but still no luck. I have followed all of the recommended steps in the forum as I had always done with VS9. When I used VS9 for the same purpose I never had this problem appear and all of my projects and all resulting DVDs were fine.
When I import the programs, the audio recorded from the Panasonic is in Dolby but in my project settings I use MPEG audio which when following the recommended procedure I say yes to the question "Do you want to Set Project Properties to Match...".
Again my project settings are what is listed in the forums recommended procedure (with slight alterations). When I am importing DVDs I use Upper Field first but use the Max allowable bit rate of 8264. Not related to the problem (at least I don't think so), with VS9 I was using 720 x 480 for the resolution but where the Panasonic records in 704 x 480 I think it makes more sense to go against the recommended procedure in the future to go with what the Panasonic records with ( the broadcast resolution of 704 x 480) where the remaining 8 pixels on either side apparently contain unimportant info anyhow and it saves having to convert each frame. In such a situation wouldn't using 720 x 480 be counterproductive in terms of picture quality and render times?
I am in NTSC territory.
I am using a Compaq Presario...
XP Home
Pentium 4 2.66 GHz
1GB RAM
160GB Harddrive
Motherboard manufacturer's name: ASUS PTGD1-LA
Integrated Intel High Definition(TM) audio (Azalia)
Realtek ALC 880 chipset
Also, each time I have installed VS10+ I have turned off all running applications. I have the lastest version of Direct X installed and have DMA enabled for IDE hard disks.
Audio problem when in timeline mode

From what I can gather from your post this problem occurs during the editing stage. Have you burned a DVD and listened to it?
I've experienced sort of the same problem. If you are running Instant Playback, it's like the sound is not clear - just like the video. My guess would be that the burned DVD will sound fine.

Sorry not to get back to you after all of these weeks. I went ahead with your suggestion. I have burned many DVD's since then and none of them have had the problem which I had described. I thought for sure that I would be wasting my time doing that from what I heard in the timeline but much to my surprise that is not the case.
Thanks
Thanks
