Dark DVD's
Hi all, I have just installed Moviefactory 4 and copied a movie from VHS to DVD. It all worked OK (sound etc) but the picture is very dark when played back on the computer or the TV. Can anyone suggest a fix for this problem? Thanks in advance, Noidea.

Hi noidea, and welcome to the forum.
The answer to your problem is this, lighten it up!
Please don't get offended but there are ways of lightening up captured video. How and where though, depends to a large degree on the source file properties, how these are captured, what capture device used etc.
As you may apreciate, we have no information on these aspects and are tapping in the dark, even darker than your DVD I might add
Please elaborate a bit more on how you capture, the devices used, method of connection, file properties captured to, project settings for the creation of your DVD etc.
I'm sure we can get on top of this if we have the right information.

No offence taken, I'm new to this stuff
Thanks for your response heinz-Oz, the footage was originally taken with a Panasonic VX22 VHS-C camera (approx 8-10 years old). It was then copied to full size VHS via dirrect connection of camera, tv & video recorder (these playback well on the TV) Upon buying my Kworld DVD maker I used it to connect my LG FC930W 6 head HI-FI video player into my relatively new computer ( 6months old). It is running XP home edition with a Intel P4 processor. My display adapter is SIS661 FX. On playback I noticed the picture looked very dark on my computer screen and after burning to DVD using my Benq DVD DD DW 1640 it was no better on the TV. As this was a test run I did not alter many of the default settings in Moviefactory 4 but have since looked and cannot find facilities to correct this problem other than auto enhancment, which makes everything pretty much red and fuzzy. Hope this helps, if not please let me know what other info you would like and were to find it on my system. Cheers Noidea

Well, I don't know the Kworld DVD maker or the software it uses for the capture. I take it you capture straight to mpeg2. In the capture software, there should be some settings for brightness, color correction etc.
One thing is for sure. The DVD will never look better than what the original does. You can brighten it up, correct color etc. but it will never be a better quality. Also, if you were to correct these things after you capture to mpeg, your quality would go down again because the clip would need to be recoded.
All these things are best taken care of during the capture stage.
