I am using VS10, created a project which includes video, photos, and music. The project plays back fine. then i created a video file choosing
NTSC DVD 4:3 format. It renders and plays back fine. Then I burn a dvd-r by importing this file using movie factory. When I go to play it on my panasonic dvd player the playback is skipping sound (breaks in sound).
Most of my project is still photos and I think I also notice the video portion of the playback is also skipping or breaking up. But the sound is very noticeable. I have tried this in couple other dvd players same problem. I played back the rendered file on Win media player and it works fine no breaks in sound or video. I dont know if the problem is in my dvd burner or i am doing something wrong in my burning or rendering procedure.
please help
Thx

One possible culprit is your burning speed. We recommend you never burn a video DVD at any more than 4x, regardless of the rated speed of the disc and your burner. A slower burning speed allows the burning laser to embed the signal more firmly into the disc. This in turn will allow a wider range of stand-alone players to play the disc. As you may know, some players -- mostly more expensive, brand name ones -- are very finicky about what they will play, and you have to take this into account when producing your DVDs. This is particularly so if you intend to distribute your masterpieces widely among friends and family.
Other possible culprits in this regard could be the brand of disc you use, the colour of the dye on it, or even the type of disc (some players prefer -R, others prefer +R, some don't like RW discs...)
Yet another possibility for your erratic sound is that you used mpeg layer 2 audio, which is not part of the NTSC DVD standard. While most modern NTSC players will in fact play it, this is another factor you will need to bear in mind.

DVD playback skipping
Thank you Ken
You were right it was my blank DVD's.
I tried a different brand and they work fine on my Panasonic dvd player.
But I am still having trouble playing them back on samsung dvd player.
A burned dvd that works fine on Panasonic dvd player seems to be jittery on samsung dvd player. I tried couple different DVD's which work fine on a Panasonic player has the same problem on samsung player.
I had this jittery problem on a sony player but I am aware of the fact that sony players play DVD+R I am burning DVD-R's.
But other DVD such as movies etc play fine on these players.
Is it possible to correct this problem or could it be in the DVD burner.
Any suggestion.
Thanks
Gordy

It's a combination of many factors. If it plays on one player but not on the other, it can't be the burner.
DVD players, and brand names are the worst, are very finiky in what media they like. That's just a fact of life.
The only thing you can do is, to make sure you get a well defined signal burned to your DVD blank (only burn at low speeds like 2x or 4x, never at max speed) and use media that is most widely supported.

Thanks Heinz
thats good to know, I just wanted to make sure it wasnt anything I was doing incorrectly. I am already burning at 2X speed.
I will try to get a better brand of DVD-R's as I tend to use the least expensive ones. Maybe I will try to get good brand name and try again.
I will let you know the outcome.
Thanks

You will find that the most common compatibility will be the DVD-Rom
Which is made by the booking process of burning a DVD+r and converting it.
DVD –r should be still one of the most favorable available
DVD +r follows that
BUT the DVD +r – turned into a DVD-ROM is best
I am not sure if all burners will automatically do the burning conversion, but I use the BenQ Drives because of that.
And I agree 50% on what has been said concerning the burning speeds.
There are way too many variables to consider in burning to slowly (2x)
4x is about the best overall average you will find & get.
I am new to VideoStudio 10 – have played with v9 some and like the programs.
I burn 2 ways – (1) to disk DVD –r (2) to hard drive create DVD folders
Put away the master copy & use the existing files on the drive to burn with.
And there can’t be enough said about disk quality.
Name Brand does not equal “QUALITY”
