VS10 plus - some "automation" questions

Post by Grzegorz.K. »

Hi,
I'm using Video Studio 10 plus, and my questions are:

1. Many times I have several dozen of clips in my project (who doesn't?). When I want to add transitions between clips (same transitions everywhere) I have to do this one after another. Is there any way to add transitions to the whole project in one go?

2. Sometimes I want to change duration of the transitions to shorter time than 1 sec. But in "Preferences" shortest time that can be set is 1 second. Again, is there any way to change time for many transitions automatically?

3. Does VS10 allow batch job other than batch convert? For example, when I want to compress using Xvid (2-pass method), first I set to "1st pass", then video is rendering, then after it's finished I have to switch to "2nd pass" and render video again. So I have to wait till "1st pass" is over to start "2nd pass". And I would like to set "1st pass" and "2nd pass" as a batch jobs first, and then those jobs and go for a walk or to the cinema for example :)

Thanks for any answers.

1. Under Preferences, check Use Default Transition Effect then choose your desired transition.

2. You can't set the default for anything shorter than 1 second. That would have to be changed manually.

1. I know that function, but it's usefull only when you don't want to edit your clips after inserting them to VS. If you do, all transitions are removed, and after editing you have to add them again manually.

3. I was think about something like this: when you want to save your movie both as a DVD and SVCD (for example) you have to do the following:

1. save movie with DVD quality settings,
2. wait till rendering finishes,
3. save movie with SVCD quality settings,
4. wait till rendering finishes.
So when you set to save your movie as a DVD, you have to wait till rendering finishes and only then you can save your movie as a SVCD.

And it would be great when there would be an option (like in Virtual Dub for example), which enables you first to set actions 1. and 3. and then run both actions as the batch jobs. From now on, all actions that you set, would be executed one by one automatically and you wouldn't have to wait till first rendering finishes to save your movie with different settings.
