Re: Cool 3D Production Studio..apply text to circle.
Hi, blacktoad. I can't remember the text running around the MGM lion, but it's been eons since I've seen it and you are doing your own creation, so that's fantastic. Anyway, I wanted text to circle the globe, so I figured it out and I think it might be what you want.
1. Go to EasyPallette and then go down to Text Effects.
2. Choose Text Motion.
3. Now here is where I wish they would number the boxes for us so we can just tell the box number. Apply the fourth box from the left, depending on your screen layout (cool is running around in a circle), to your text.
4. In Attribute Panel, you can choose Surface Animation from the drop down menu and tweek it with the controls there. I was disappointed that "Fit Surface" slammed it up against the side of my globe but it circled it against the facing side and didn't go behind the globe like I want it to.
Oh, you can also go to the Global Effects and set the words on fire. If you chose to do so.
Hope this helps. I'm a newbie to this program, too.
Good luck.
Mathis.

apply text to circle Cool3D PS
Hi Mathis
Many thanks indeed for your help, yes your suggestion worked fine just
as you described.
But as I steered you in the wrong direction I did not get the correct answer, I was looking for.
I should have described the object as a clock face which am trying to apply text to ....replace the numbers with text. I must be more precise
and accurate.
In path editor create the circle. Then apply text. Useing an image of our
Boxer dog howling as a texture to sit in the center of the circle. like the
MGM logo with the Lion. The text Howling Harry Productions.
I am very early in the learning stages of Cool 3D PS but it is a great program, just limited by our imagination or mine!!
Thanks again Blacktoad

Hi Rwernyei,rwernyei wrote:Blacktoad,
Is this what you are trying to do? Or do you want the text to be static in the shape of a circle? If the latter, that's even easier. Let me know which one and I can give you the specifics on how to achieve it.
Thanks yes the static version please.
But both would be good if you have time thanks.
Am collecting tutorials for Cool 3D PS
to learn from. I guess after you show me how easy the above is to do
will have to hide in shame.....hmmm
Many thanks....Blacktoad
Blacktoad,
To make the text in a circle, follow these steps. Click on the Text Toolbar and type in your desired text. I then went to the Attributes Panel and changed my Surface Color. Then I chose Bevel>None>Extrusion 0. This makes my text flat, so I can easily overlay it onto an object like the circle in my example. Now under Object Effects in the Easy Palette select Bend. In the Attributes Panel select View Thumbnails and select the 8th preset. Change the Level, I chose 48. Make sure to keyframe value 48 for beginning and end. That's it. You have made your text into a circle and now you can overlay it by using position and size to align it over another object. As for creating the center for video, in my sample, I just inserted a flat circle inside of my other circle and applied a video texture to the face which is similar to what you would be doing with your lion roar footage.
As for rotation, this gets a little more complicated and involves centering around subgroup pivots and then deleting a center object, etc... If I have some time, I will try and write up a tutorial with some screencaps.
Anyways, hope this helps.
