video capture driver
Hi,
I´ve downloaded the test version of Ulead Video Studio 10 plus, but when I try to capture a video from my camara Sony Digital8 DCR-TR7100E Pal, I recieve the message: there is no video capture driver installed.
What can I do, where can I find this driver?
Thanks for your answers, Marion

Hi Heinz,
Thanks for your quick answer. The Camera is connected through a fire wire (NOT USB) to the computer. It is strange that each time we connect the computer, Windows XP recognises it, if you look into the Control Panel under “Scanners and Cameras” the camera is showed, however if we try to capture the videos from the camera into either Windows Movie Maker or Ulead 10 plus, an error message appears that either the camera is not connected or no Video capture driver is available. Please tell me how to select the connection device in capture set up (as you can see, my computer knowledge is very, very narrow!!!).
Would be most grateful for your kind help,
Thanks, Marion

Have had great luck capturing from digital DV cam using
a freeware program titled WINDV. Using VS9 always seemed to create jerky captured video. I probably did not have setting correct, but happy with WINDV.

Tommytucker, thanks for your contribution, although I do not feel I understand what you mean, I am a computer "illerate". Having said this, if I try to set in the Ulead 10 Plus in the control device the MS 1394 device control, I got an error message saying that no device is connected, although the camera IS connected and XP has recognised it as I plugged the fire wire in and asked me to open Windows Movie Maker. This is not normal!
I want to use Ulead to edit the videos and Ulead burn to burn DVDs but I need to be able to transfer the videos into the computer!
Help!

As Ken already pointed out, it's important to know which OS you are using.
Back to your question as to how one would set up the device control. I'm not at my video editing machine now and have to do this from memory (let's hope I get it right
).
When you open the capture module, on the menu bar there is a "Set Up" menu. Click that and from the drop down list select The MS 1394 device control.
I don't use VS but am sure that the capture modules of the various programs are similar. I know for a fact that I have to go into the set up each time I want to capture because MSP 7 always defaults to "None" for the device control.
Let's hope you can work it out from my description or someone more knowledgeable in the use of VS comes along to correct me if I gave faulty instructions.

Hi there, it's me again, as I wrote, we have Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2. Actually, as stated in my message earlier today, I did exactly what Vidoman describes, however, I get a message that there is no device connected (as described by Heinz, "none" was shown as default for the device control). This is strange, since once I connect the camera, XP recognises it (immediately indicated on the menu bar at the bottom on the right) and this is as well shown in "Scanner and Cameras" (bear in mind that I have XP in German, so this is MY own translation) under the Control Panel. If I click on the mentioned camera icon in the control panel, again no capture is possible. So there is something strange, Xp recognises the camera, but when I want to select the MS 1394 device Ulead says that no device is connected.
Hope you can help me guys,
Cheers
