Camera wizard

Post by Chuck Le Mieux »

I have asked this question before without getting a satisfactory answer. Mainly how to get the camera wizaed to access my Canon A40 camera.

I think the software may not support the A40 but can not get an answer.'

My settings are as follows.
Digital camera=Canon Digital Camera
Camera drive or card reader C:/
Copy images to D:/pics

I get the following error message
You may be trying to transfer from a large fixed disk drive, do you want to proceed with this operation?

There is nothing wrong with my camera as it works fine using the windows event on device feature with PI 10 XL 8.5 8 and 6.

Can someone in plain english tell me the exact steps to get this feature to work or tell me that it doesn't support my camera.

There is indeed something wrong with your camera setting because the camera drive cannot be "C:". The "C:" drive is always been used as an hard disk drive and cannot be used as an camera drive.

You can use Windows Explorer to find the camera drive and set the setting in the Camera Wizard, or you can click on the highlighted drive letter in the Camera Wizard and it will pop up an Select Image Source dialog. In this dialog you can click on the Auto Find button to let PI find the camera drive for you.

Hope this helps.

Use Windows Explorer to know what your camera drive is, and then click on the highlighted drive letter in the Camera Wizard to set the camera drive to that drive.

Hope this helps.

This did not work. Clicking on the drive c:/ in the get images from window brings up the dialog of all my drives. Clicking on the c;/ drive icon does nothing.

Again, C: is NOT the camera drive, use some other drive to try. In your case, I think it should be E: (if no CD/DVD-ROM in your system) or F:.

When you are using the Camera Wizard, make sure your camera is connected to the PC and is been turned on.

Putting the original DVD in the dvd drive doesn't work either.

This should not be a difficult operation. If the windows event can find the proper driver which is in c;/program files/canon/powershot a40 twain then why cant PI 10 find it?

Same problem with Canon EOS Digital - more information

Post by martingk »

For those reading in the US, the camera there (and the windows driver) is called EOS Kiss Rebel 300D.

I have exactly the same problem having just bought PhotoImpact 10 (to replace my existing photoimpact 4, which only handled a serial interface to a camera). The camera installs fine, and is visible through other software, bit Windows XPs own and other products. However, I cannot access it through Ulead.

When looking at Explorer, the reason seems to be that the device itself is not allocated a drive letter, and there seems to be no way to to this. The device is registered as \\.\Usbcan0. I can't set this in Ulead, so I can't download pictures.

For now, I am using XPs camera handler to download the photos, and then Ulead PhotoImpact/Album to catalogue and edit them. However, it is a pain - I was wanting to be able to do everything in one package. I could have done what I am doing now in my old PhotoImpact 4!

Can some either suggest how to get round this one, or nudge Ulead development to extend the camera wizard slightly to be able to handle \\drive type names?

Thanks

With the camera disconnected, double click on 'my computer'. There will be a list of drives. Connect camera and, if necessary, enable the file transfer mode. The camera should show up as another drive with corresponding letter. This is what you need to reference in the camera wizard to get pictures from. If your camera isn't supported by name, use 'generic'.
