No Sound in Preview (Not Soundblaster!)

Post by Remy »

I've been using the MovieFactory 5 trial for a few weeks now (gonna buy it in a few days) and before that, was trying out VideoStudio 10 (which was too rich in features for my needs). I have the same problem with both:

When previewing, editing, etc, there is no sound. When I play the burned dvd on a standalone player, the audio is there, all synced and nice-like.

My sound 'card' is onboard the nVidia nForce2 MCP-T Southbridge of my ABit AN7. I've searched the forum, and can find no mention of this problem with this hardware.

I also have a Hauppauge WinTV 878/9 capture card, but I don't use it.

There is no Creative hardware in my system.

The problem exists regardless of the source of the video file I'm editing.

I should also mention I'm running Vista beta 2. I've had no problems with audio in any other program, and have found MF5 to be very stable otherwise.

 Should've written that right in the subject!

Search for Vista in all forums and you'll find similar posts. If you're using a beta os (Vista) with beta drivers and trying software that hasn't been adapted yet, then this will probably not be the only problem you'll run into.

You have other non-Microsoft programs with DirectSound running OK?

Edited: DirectX question removed. Vista has DX10 with a DX9 emulation layer.

I think a lot of us will wait for SP1 (minimum) before even thinking about Vista. Especially now that XP is working, we finally know how to setup things the way we want, and know how to avoid the junk we don't want. I really don't want to spend all my life adjusting and "cleaning" Windows... and I'm still discovering things in XP and WMP that surprise (or even shock) me. Happy tinkering and good luck!

I can only second what snoops has said.

The unfortunate aspect of running with the "latest" all the time (Vista OS, MF 5) is the fact that there are only a limited number of people on the same track.

I have learned a long time ago, never aim to have the latest (more often than not it ain't the best, at least not until allt he bugs are ironed out) and if you got something that works, think twice before you upgrade.

Sorry I had to get this in, because it doesn't help you in the least. Recently I came accross a thread in this forum, dealing with a sound problem similar to yours. However, the user in that thread did not get any sound at all. The solution was to run a cable from the capture card (Haupauge) to the sound card. That fixed it.

Since you are getting sound in your final product but not during the editing stage, I suspect that Ulead is not looking in the right location for the sound when playing back your footage. Check your preferences for MF 5 for anything to do with sound and make sure all is set to the correct inputs.

Sorry I can't help further.

Yep, it is Vista. I didn't bother to check the other forums (non-MF) for vista stuff; sorry about that.

In regards to compatability with Vista beta 2, I have jad absolutely no other problems with either software (MF or VS). The editing I've done so far hasn't required sound editing, so I've burned a dozen or so dvds already, and have had no duds, and only one or two lockups (in VS). Audio and video quality in the final product have been what one would expect, depending (of course) on kbps, etc.

I think I'm gonna have a look at the Microsoft beta feedback sites, see what's been reported, what solutions have been presented (if any). If I find anything, I'll report back..

Movie Factory Compatibility with Vista

Post by JoReneA »

I am running Vista preRC1 (I've been let to believe there are few changes in RC1) and Movie Factory is still not playing with any sound in the preview or while editing the video. If ULead wants to retain their customers, I think they should plan to make at least MF 4 and 5 compatible. There is obviously some software engineering they'll have to do, but I have various issues with version 5 and do not want to upgrade to that version (which is also not compatible at present). So PLEASE, work on it and come up with a fix. Thanks!

Vista is still in a RC stage, which means it's not an stable platform now.

I can say Ulead also has the latest Vista version and Vista compatible would be ready soon after Vista is been released officially by Microsoft.

I also use Vista RC (build 5600) now, very impressive and the stability is been improved. However, some weird things still happened....:(

Vista Compatibility

Post by JoReneA »

H.T.,

Do you think ULead will issue a service pack to enable Movie Factory versions 4 or 5 to work with Vista or do you think we'll have to purchase another new version? I know this is probably just an opinion, but thought you might have a better idea than I.

Thanks, Jo
