I have completed my project and successfully burned to DVD, now I would like to backup the rendered project to DVD, I am unable to backup back to DV.
Which folders in VS8 do I need to copy to achieve this goal ?
Thanks

I'm not sure if you are trying to backup to DVD or DV???burgo wrote:I have completed my project and successfully burned to DVD, now I would like to backup the rendered project to DVD, I am unable to backup back to DV.

Thanks George
what are your source videos?
What format are your source videos? mpeg, dv .avi, other? Are you trying to backup all the material that was used to generate your finished video? or are you trying to backup the generated video after you applied all your editing?
what format is your generated video (mpeg1, mpeg2, dv .avi, other???)
How many minutes and how large are the videos?

Backup
Original source was DV, I edited them with VS8 and created a DVD. What I would like is to keep a copy of the source files and menus if possible that were used to create the disc so that I can import them at a later date if required.
This was partially discussed in a previous thread

but I did not really get to the bottom of which files to copy
Thanks for your help

DV .avi space requirements
if you want to backup your source videos (dv .avi's,), then depending on how many minutes of footage you are dealing with, you will need multiple DVD's (assuming DVD5 - single layer).
You can just make a data disc, put about 4gb of dv .avi's into a folder, and burn it to dvd disc as a data disc.
About 4gb of dv .avi is only about 18 minutes, so you would need to plan accordingly.
You could output your entire timeline to a dv .avi, then you could backup the finished dv .avi video to dv tape (assuming your dv camcorder has dv-in enabled -- some PAL DV camcorders don't have this option turned on from the factory).

You should find the videos in My Documents\Video Studio\ Check the path in the capture screen if you don't. You can use a program like maxsplitter to split them into usable sizes. You'll need about 1 DVD disc per 20 minutes.
You can also use VS8 to create new files of a mangeable size. About 20 minutes per disc. I usually go about 16, corruption when it happens usually happens at the end.
Save the project files, gather any other files you used and burn them to disc. You don't need to save anything but the sources. Be aware that you will need to put the files back in the same path as they originally came from.
MSP has a package files option to gather them all in one folder, don't know if VS8 does. Doesn't appear VS7 does.

Re: Backup
The files depend somewhat on what you placed into the project - assuming that any source material you used from the ULead installation (ie sound files from the VS8 install) will always be available from the same place, you need to save any of your input files i.e. the avi/mpg 2 capture files, any pictures, and music files that you sourced, the project file (which is the one file that puts it all togetherburgo wrote:

Does this help?
