Best Capture parameters

Post by Nounours18200 »

Hi friends,

I would like to know what are the best Capture parameters (looking for the highest image quality) on UVS9 for my miniDV camcorder;

When opening the Capture "options" dialog box on UVS9, there are 3 parameters I would like to adjust in order to get the highest image quality:

-"DVD" with 100% quality: this looks as the best choice over VCD, SVCD etc....
-"Bit rate" : should I chose "constant" or "variable" ? (of course I will set it to the highest possible value)
-"Detinterlace output" ? should I select yes or no, provided that only "no" allows the "lower field first" option to be selected, which I suppose is the best when capturing from a miniDV tape...

Thanks for your answers,
N.

Are your requirements/needs to capture mpeg instead of DV .avi from you miniDV camcorder :?:

The best would be to capture/transfer the dv .avi as recorded on your miniDV camcorder to your computer as a dv .avi, do all your editing, then convert to mpeg as the final step for Authoring and distribution.

The faster process is to capture mpeg (conversion from dv-to-dvd on the fly by your computer), but you will have to see how long your computer can sustain the conversion before needing to "flush dv transcode buffer" (which temporarily stops capture while it finishes encoding video that has built up in a buffer to mpeg). Some computers are fast/optimized enough to sustain a long capture, while others fill the buffer after a only a few minutes. If you don't do much editing, then this could be a good approach to save time.

There are pros and cons for each method. It all comes down to your workflow...

George

My computer seems able to perform the on the fly conversion (even if DV conversion buffer flushes are performed from time to time), but what is the best choice (I mean best image quality) to select in the "Format" dialog box (just below the "source" dialog box ?

Is it DV or AVI or DVD ?

I assume that the first two ones would ensure the best quality, as well as would avoid the periodic DV buffer flushes ?? (and it is not a pb for me if the conversion is performed by UVS9 when I create the disc).

Tks friends,
