Preferences Problem and Save as Still Image Problem
Hi. I've been using VideoStudio 9 a few times to do simple saves and edits.
First Problem: Saving as Still Image: I could previously save a still image by clicking on the Save as Still Image button but that has suddenly stopped working. Nothing happens. The button depresses but no image is in the Image gallery nor is an image file saved anywhere on the hard drive. Using the Save Current Frame as Image in Project Mode doesn't do anything either. To try and solve this, I checked out this web site. That didn't solve my image problem but did throw up the second problem.
Second Problem: Preferences: I went to click on Preferences under File. I got this error message:
'The specified folder does not exist or is read-only. The default working folder will be used.' The ULead Video Studio program then crashed. This happened repeatedly.
Can someone help? Is the Preference problem the cause of the Save as Still Image problem?

Hi Novice,
Please fill in your system specs so we know a little of what we are dealing with.
However, it sounds like your installation of VS has become corrupted and requires re-installation.
If you have the physical disc use the "Repair" function, if not then you may have to doa complete re-install.

Thanks that helped but still have Preferences Problem
Thanks for the advice. I tried the repair function on the disc. That didn't change anything. I uninstalled and then installed from scratch. That fixed the Save as a Still Image problem (which was where this all started) but didn't fix the Preferences problem. The program seems to work OK (at least for what I want to do) but if I click on Preferences it still crashes.
My system specs are:
AMD Sempron Processor 3000+, 1,81 GHz, 1.00GB of RAM. Running Windows XP Professional Version 2002 with Service Pack 2.
Any clues re the Preferences problem? (If not, I'll just ignore it as the program seems to do what I what it to.)
Thanks again!

The install still must be faulty. Did you do a Clean uninstall?

Ulead programs have a problem of leaving behind alot of things, that will make reinstalling by simply doing an un-install/re-install use what was left over. You need to get rid of the left-overs first.

Thanks. I've done the clean uninstall following the directions you gave and then installed Video Studio 9 from scratch. Unfortunately, there's no difference. The program still crashes when I click on Preferences or hit F6.
Any other clues? Is there a file that sets out the preferences somewhere?

(Shorthand for making an A SS out of U and ME) that you have XP or Windows 2000.
If so it sounds as though it might be a problem with user account security permissions where you are logged on as a User not an Administrator and the user account has read only permissions. If so this would affect both of your problems.

Re: Preferences Problem and Save as Still Image Problem
Dear sjj1805
Thanks for persevering with this! I've filled in my system details in my profile. You're right I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2. I'm definitely logged in as Administrator and I'm able to instal, uninstal and change other programs.
I used your instructions to do a total uninstal of Video Studio yesterday. That seemed to remove it all. And I then installed Video Studio from scratch. The Save as Still Image is fixed (which is great) but the Preferences problem is still there - although the earlier error message is now gone. When I press Preferences (or F6) the program freezes and then I get the Microsoft error message. I press Don't Send (ie I don't send Microsoft the eror report). And after a few seconds, Video Studio closes.
I recently downloaded updates for Windows XP. I don't know whether that has anything to do with it??

Same preference problem
same problem when using the preference. It is definitely after XP SP2 installation, as it worked previously before the SP2 upgrade. Getting help from ulead, finally no cure ... it said it is likely something in the machine, software etc etc. When I saw this entry in forum, I am sure there is a certain combination that this preference problem exists.
