Simple one click cut, no MultiTrim?

Post by bsdcatharine »

This one will demonstrate I am a blondie, but what the heck...

When I wanted to cut out a short piece of video in the middle of a clip in Video Studio:
1. I found exactly the beginning of a piece by dragging the cursor,
2. clicked on a little scissors button which made the cut exactly at the cursor position,
3. found the end of a piece by dragging,
4. clicked on a little scissors,
5. clicked on the piece to remove,
6. pressed Delete

Now that I upgraded to Media Studio Pro, I must

1. find the beginning by dragging and dropping,
2. zoom in,
3. hold "S" and place the mouse icon exactly at the cursor position, click at the cursor and release "S",
4. zoom out,
5. find the end of a piece by dragging and dropping,
6. zoom in,
7. hold "S" and place the mouse icon exactly at the cursor position, click at the cursor and release "S",
8. zoom out,
9. click on the piece to remove,
10. press Delete

What's the trick to reduce 10 steps to 6 again?

I hate MultiTrim Video! I need to make nice clean cuts using the nice big Preview Window, where I can see all the video details with nice exact shuttling cursor!

You can cut in MediaStudio the same as you cut in VideoStudio.
I've never had to press 'S' on my keyboard.

I also prefer to use multi-trim or split by scene whether I'm using VideoStudio or MediaStudio. I then use the simple cuts procedure to make fine adjustments to those cuts if/when necessary.

Well, I only use MSP, not VS. Never had to press the "S" key either. If you want to cut accurately at a particular frame, it's best done zoomed in to frame level. I use that quite a lot and generally preview my clip to the position where I want to make changes. Once I locate the frame where I want to cut, I zoom to frame level. On the time line I can see the indicator right at the position where that frame is on the time line, click that position with the scissor tool and I'm done.

BTW, I used to be blond too, before I turned grey that is

How about dragging the playhead cursor to where you want the cut on your selected clip and pressing U? Much simpler! If you do the same with no selected clip, you cut everything at that point. For MSP8! Use it all the time. :)

Catharine, I think you're overcomplicating the MSP mathod a little. I snip out "frame accurate" sections using the scissor tool routinely, and I don't use zoom at all.

Just hold down "S" and click two places arbitrarily in the clip. Then move the preview cursor to the point at which you want your first cut to exists, and drag the first of the two arbitrary cuts to that point. Do the same for the second cut, and drag the second arbitrary cut to there.

You need to have "stitch trim" and "snap" turned on for it to work accruately.

If you want to save even more time, and you've got enough footage not to worry about frame-accuracy, just arbitrarily cut somewhere in the clip, then drag the cut backwards and forwards until you find the place you want the cut to be. If you have the trim window open, it shows you the frames either side of the cut as you drag it. This is how I work, now.

Whole-hearted thank you for all your polite responses. Anyway, Mr. Devil's U shortcut was exactly what I was looking for.

PS: thank you also that nobody cursed the RTFM to me. I had done that before posting. And nice to hear that there are other blond people who are clever.
