Importing from DVD/DVD-VR -- I get video but no audio

Post by Sheep Cloner »

I am unable to capture directly from a 4" DVD that I had recorder on a camcorder. I end up with all of the video but no audio. If I right click on the captured file Video Studio 9 seems to think that there is an audio track present. It is a flat line of audio if you look under the audio tab. This happens in both standard DVD and DVD-VR formats.

Has anyone else had this problem? Solutions?

NTSC

Error Codes - None

System information: Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II, Windows XP Medio Center, 1 GB DDR RAM

Thanks for your help! ~Ken

I believe that those are procedures for Video Studio 8. I'm using 9. I do believe that I am importing the DVD correctly. I click on capture, then Import from DVD, then I select the VIDEO_TS folder, I choose the desired scene, click import, and wait. In both the preview and VS9 interface I get no audio.

I have double checked the procedure and followed those that you sent me. I'm still getting the same results. The video is there but the audio is absent.

Is there possibly a system setting or program setting that needs to be changed?

Which audio format does your camcorder record in? What is your camcorders TV standard, also NTSC?

Maybe VS 9 does not have the required encoder?

The TV standard is NSTC. I'm also having the same trouble with an analog audio/video signal. I recieve the video but not the audio.

Aha, now as "number 5 alive" would say "We have more input!"
Try looking in your Windows control Panel at the audio settings for
Recording. You probably have the wrong input device selected.

I've investigated that some. I was able to record analog audio and video with a separate piece of software. So I don't think the problem lies there.

I looked under recording settings and the only option I have is REALtek AC97 Audio. It does not allow me to select any other device. I think it may be an encoding problem. I have no idea how to correct it though.

When you go through the steps of the tutorial, you should get to a point where the AUDIO PROPERTIES are precisely detailed by the Ulead software.

What are the properties of your AUDIO?

1. Does the software identify the audio as AC-3?

2. Or does the software identify the audio as LPCM?

3. Or does the software identify the audio as MPEG AUDIO?

Which?

It identifies the audio as Dolby Digital. Is that the problem?

Do you have a full version of VS9 or one with SE after it? If you have the latter, then it does not come with an ability to handle Dolby audio (for licensing reasons since SE versions are free).
