Post by rabu »

Dear forum!

I have VideoStudio 10 plus. When i want to insert video captured with Fuji S9500 photo I get message Unable to open the file. Video is m-jpeg tipe and it has .avi extension.
But my colege has the same version of VideoStudio and he can insert the same video without the problem. :?

Is the problem wit my OS it is Windows XP professonal x64 or my CPU AMD Athlon 64 3200+?

Thank you for your help.

Hi Rabu, and welcome to the forums..:)

In order for VS to be able to open a clip that has used the M-JPEG codec, you need to have the M-JPEG codec on your system.

Did any software come with your camera? Since your camera uses that codec, the software should have it, and when installed should place the codec on your computer.

For example recently I purchased a Kodak EasyShare P880 camera. It has the ability to record video, using the M-JPEG codec. I didn't think I would be able to insert a video clip made with the camera into VS10 +. However since I had installed the accompaning software VS had no problems with it.

You can purchase the MJPEG codec here: http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/.

It probably means your friend has the Motion JPEG (MJPEG) codec on his computer and you don't. Normally, if the Fuji uses this codec for its video, I would have thought a copy of the codec would be installed through the Fuji installation CD. Otherwise, you would need to obtain a copy of the codec from another source. There is one here http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=PICVideo_MJPEG but I think you have to pay for it...

I agree with with the above suggestions... It's best to install the Fuji software/codec.

As a last resort, you might try Free-Codecs.com. (I don't know if there are any free MJPEG codecs, or if sombody is collecting a royalty on each one.)

You might also try SUPER (FREE!!!) to convert the file to something more common (i.e. AVI/DV). SUPER is universal conversion program that can convert almost any A/V format to almost any other A/V format. Since it's free, I suspect that it uses some unlicensed/unauthorized/illegal codecs. I'm not sure, but I think it has an AC3 codec, and AC3 is controlled by Dolby... Nothing "Dolby" is free!

Thank you for yours quick answers.

I tried all your suggestions. I installed Morgan MJPEG codec, FinePixViewer that came with my camera. And I still can't insert those videos.

I think that this is not the problem with the codec. I can play all videos with BSplayer or Windows media player. So the MJPEG codec should be installed in my computer.
